Digi Portugal SIM card: prepaid plans from 4 euros and the catches for a visitor

Digi's prepaid plans run from 4 to 7 euros a month, but its SIMs are sold through official dealers and the page does not say what a visitor needs.

Is a Digi Portugal SIM card a good choice for a visitor?

On price, it looks cheap; on convenience, less so. We read Digi's prepaid plans page on 8 October 2026. A Digi Portugal SIM card is sold through official dealers, and the page does not say whether a visitor can buy one, what ID is needed, or where the dealers are. Treat Digi as a lower-cost option for a longer stay once you have found a dealer, not as a quick arrival fix.

What do Digi's prepaid plans cost?

The page lists three plans that appear to be the prepaid set, with final prices per month:

  • 50 GB: 4 euros, unlimited national calls, rolling-over data.
  • 150 GB: 5 euros, unlimited national calls, rolling-over data.
  • 200 GB: 7 euros, unlimited national calls and 400 international minutes.

Plans reactivate automatically if you have enough balance, and you can cancel the auto-reactivation. Unused data rolls over if the plan is renewed; unused minutes and SMS expire. The page does not state a validity in days. Prepaid SIMs carry no mandatory monthly top-up, but you must top up at least once every six months to keep the SIM active. The page does not give the SIM price; it says the dealer activation loads 10 euros of balance from the SIM cost.

What about Digi eSIM, ID and 5G?

The page describes eSIM as a virtual SIM with the same data and call quality as a physical one, and links a separate eSIM page that we did not read, so we give no eSIM price or steps. It does not say whether ID is required to buy or activate a SIM.

On 5G, Digi says access is automatic and free for all mobile customers with a 5G phone and Digi 5G coverage where you are. It states maximum speeds of up to 140 Mbps on 4G and 230 Mbps on 5G, which depend on coverage and the phone. It gives no coverage percentage.

Digi versus a travel eSIM

Digi prepaid is aimed at residents. For a trip of days or weeks, a travel eSIM installed before you fly avoids dealer hunting and any unknown ID step. Compare prices on the cheapest eSIM page. Other Portuguese networks are on the MEO, NOS and Vodafone Portugal pages. Our Portugal SIM card comparison lays out the options, where to buy a SIM card in Portugal covers shops and airports, and the Portugal hub has the rest. Travel eSIM prices are on the cheapest eSIM page.
