Cyprus eSIM prices bottom out at $0.72 a gigabyte — and most European visitors should buy nothing at all

Most visitors to Cyprus should not buy this

Cyprus is an EU member state, and under the EU's roam-like-at-home rules a mobile plan issued anywhere in the European Union or the wider EEA works in Cyprus at domestic rates, with no roaming surcharge. If your SIM came from Germany, Ireland, Poland, Spain, France or any of the rest, the correct advice for a Cypriot holiday is to buy nothing at all, switch data roaming on, and check one thing before you fly: your operator's fair-use roaming allowance, which is often smaller than your bundle at home.

That is not a footnote. It is the right answer for a very large share of the people who land in Larnaca each summer, and no amount of eSIM pricing changes it.

The rest of this page is for everyone else — travellers from the United States, Canada, Australia, the Gulf and Asia, whose home plans either exclude Cyprus or charge painfully for it, and British travellers, whose position now varies by operator since the UK left the EU roaming zone.

One seller, eighteen prices, one date

That is the whole of our Cypriot coverage, and it is not a survey of the market. Saily, Holafly, Nomad, eSIMCard and eSIM Go all sell travel eSIMs; nobody here has read their Cypriot checkouts yet, so none of them appears below with a figure beside it.

Airalo sells its Cypriot plans under the name Dekanet. That is Airalo's own retail product label, not a carrier. Airalo publishes no host network for Cyprus, and publishes none for any other country either, so we cannot tell you which Cypriot operator your phone will attach to.

The full metered ladder

Cyprus is cheap, and not only at the top of the ladder

$0.72 a gigabyte is a good rate by this site's standards. Austria's verified floor is $0.58 and Belgium's $0.65, so Cyprus sits just behind the best rates we hold anywhere in Europe.

What makes it unusual is the 20 GB rung rather than the 50 GB one. Twenty gigabytes over 30 days is $19 here — $0.95 a gigabyte, under a dollar without buying the largest plan on the shelf. In Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Malta the same-size plan works out between $1.35 and $1.50 a gigabyte, and the 50 GB plan is the only rung in the country that breaks a dollar. Cyprus gives you two sensible options instead of one, which matters if 50 GB is more than you will ever use.

Where the ladder stops explains the price

The best predictor of what a country costs on Airalo is not its wealth or its networks — it is how far the ladder goes. Cyprus runs to 50 GB over 30 days, and countries with a 50 GB rung land near a dollar a gigabyte. Markets that stop at 10 GB, Kenya and Nigeria and Fiji among them, run $4.60 to $4.70 a gigabyte. The small plans are priced similarly everywhere; it is the top of the ladder that moves.

The same effect is visible inside Cyprus alone. The 1 GB plan is $4 a gigabyte and the 50 GB plan is $0.72 — same seller, same country, same morning, and a 5.6-fold difference in rate decided entirely by how far down the page you scrolled.

Unlimited is a bet on days, not gigabytes

Airalo lists six unlimited plans in Cyprus: $11.50 for 3 days, $19 for 5, $27 for 7, $35 for 10, $49 for 15 and $69 for 30. They are priced by time, and two comparisons settle them.

Over a long weekend, unlimited at $11.50 is $4.50 more than 3 GB across the same three days — a fair price for not counting. Over a month it inverts: $69 buys 30 days of unlimited, while the 50 GB plan covers the same 30 days for $36. Unless you genuinely expect to pass 50 GB, the metered plan is close to half the money.

Which plan to buy

• A long weekend. 3 GB over 3 days at $7, or unlimited at $11.50 if you would rather not think about it.
• A week. 10 GB over 7 days at $15. The 15-day version is $15.50, so if your dates are loose, pay the extra fifty cents.
• Two weeks. 20 GB over 15 days at $18.50. The 30-day version is $19, and the wider window is worth fifty cents.
• A month, or two people on one hotspot. 50 GB over 30 days at $36, the lowest rate we hold for Cyprus.

Two things this page will not tell you

Cyprus is politically divided, and the EU roaming rules described above follow that line: the Republic is inside the roaming zone, the north runs its own networks outside it. Because Airalo publishes no host network, we cannot tell you what an Airalo eSIM does north of the buffer zone. Nobody here has tested it, so we will not guess.
