What we publish, who publishes it, and why it's structured the way it is.
Cheap Sim Card compares travel eSIM and local SIM card options for people who are about to land somewhere and would like their phone to work.
The site covers 94 countries in depth rather than every country shallowly. Each one gets a full set: an overview guide, a comparison of the eSIM providers that serve it, reviews of the local networks, an airport guide, and city-level detail where the answer actually differs by city. That's a deliberate trade. A guide to somewhere we can't keep current is worse than no guide.
Why it exists
Travel connectivity is a small purchase surrounded by an unusual amount of noise. The products are hard to compare on purpose — different allowances, different validity windows, different host networks, and headline prices that mean very little until you divide them by something. Meanwhile the search results are dominated by pages that exist to place an affiliate link and have not been updated since they were generated.
The fix isn't complicated. Publish the numbers, publish when you checked them, publish where they came from, and say plainly when you don't know.
How it's funded
Affiliate commission on outbound links. That's the entire business model, and it creates an obvious pull toward recommending whoever pays most. We handle it structurally rather than with a promise: the cheapest-per-gigabyte plan in every table is computed from the price data, not selected, so it can't quietly drift toward the best-paying provider. Local prepaid SIMs, which pay us nothing, are recommended over eSIMs wherever they're genuinely better value — which is often.
