Nine Airalo plans read off airalo.com on 8 October 2026. The best rate is $4.70 a gigabyte for 10 GB over 7 days, and the list stops at 10 GB.

What does an eSIM Malawi plan cost?

All the figures here come from Airalo, and only from Airalo. Nine plans, each read off airalo.com on 8 October 2026, in US dollars. We have priced no other seller for Malawi: not Saily, Holafly, Nomad, eSIMCard or eSIM Go. Treat this as one company's price list rather than a survey of the market. This page is desk research from public sources; we did not install or test any of these plans. All nine are metered, with nothing above 10 GB and no uncapped plan.

The cheapest gigabyte is $4.70, from 10 GB over 7 days at $47. The dearest is $8, from 1 GB over 3 days. The spread is 1.7-fold. Every plan carries the product name Shire Mobile, and our data gives no host network.

The step from 5 GB to 10 GB over 7 days costs $16 more ($31 to $47) and doubles the data. The 3 GB plan over 3 days is $18.50, or $6.17 a gigabyte. If you need data for a week or more, 10 GB is the better buy per gigabyte, though it is the dearest plan in absolute terms.

Length is almost free: 10 GB is $47 for 7 days, $48 for 15 and $49 for 30. The month costs $2 more than the week.

What the thin list does and does not tell you

It tells you that on 8 October 2026 Airalo's Malawi range stopped at 10 GB and had no uncapped plan, with a floor of $4.70. It does not tell you whether another seller is cheaper, because we have not priced one. At these rates a heavy user is paying a lot, and it is reasonable to check whether you need the data at all.

SIM registration: what the regulator says

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority publishes a FAQ, which we read today. It says anyone with a SIM card must register it, accepts a passport among the documents, and states that registration is free. It also says the process has been suspended while operators continue registering numbers, and that unregistered SIMs will be barred when it resumes. It has no separate rules for foreigners. The FAQ is undated, so confirm with the operator. A travel eSIM from Airalo is a separate product and we have not read its registration terms.

If you are shopping for a cheap eSIM for Malawi, start with the rate per gigabyte rather than the headline price. A Malawi eSIM is only good value once you know how much data you will use, and a Malawi travel SIM from any seller should be compared on the same terms. Think of this as one Malawi data plan list to check against others, not the last word.

For the seller across every country we hold, see our Airalo page. For how this rate compares with the rest of the site, see the cheapest eSIM plans and the provider comparison, and for the wider region see the Africa guide.

Is the 30-day Malawi plan worth it?

If your dates might slip, yes. The 10 GB plan is $47 for 7 days, $48 for 15 days and $49 for 30. The extra three weeks cost $2, so the longer plan is cheap insurance against a delayed flight or an extended stay.
