What does an eSIM for Zambia cost, and who did we price?

Nine Zambia eSIM plans from Airalo, every one read off airalo.com on 8 October 2026. We have priced only Airalo here. We have not priced Saily, Holafly, Nomad, eSIMCard or eSIM Go for Zambia, so this is one seller's list, not a survey, and we make no claim about the best eSIM across sellers. Airalo lists its Zambia plans under the name Kafue Mobile. We treat that as Airalo's own listing label and do not name a host network from it.

The cheapest Zambia data plan we hold is 10 GB over 7 days at $37, which is $3.70 a gigabyte. The dearest rate is $7.50 a gigabyte, from 1 GB over 3 days at $7.50.

How much does the rate change with size?

The rate runs from $7.50 a gigabyte at 1 GB over 3 days down to $3.70 at 10 GB over 7 days, a 2.0-fold spread inside one seller's own list. Bigger plans are cheaper per gigabyte; the largest metered plan we hold is 10 GB. A heavy user cannot buy a lower rate than this.

Validity moves the price less than size does, but not always trivially. 3 GB costs $16 to $16.50 depending on the validity window; 5 GB costs $22 to $23 depending on the validity window; 10 GB costs $37 to $38 depending on the validity window. The widest gap within one size is $1.

Which size should you buy for Zambia?

These are the plans in our data that fit common trip lengths. They are arithmetic on the table above, not a test of how much data a trip uses.

Very light use. 1 GB over 3 days at $7.50 is the entry price, and the dearest gigabyte on the list at $7.50.

A weekend or three days. 3 GB over 3 days at $16 ($5.33 a gigabyte).

About a week. 5 GB over 7 days at $22 ($4.40 a gigabyte).

Ten days to a month. 10 GB over 30 days at $38 ($3.80 a gigabyte).

There are no uncapped plans in our Zambia data.

Is an eSIM worth it for Zambia, or should you use roaming or a local SIM?

We have not priced roaming from US carriers or local SIMs for Zambia, so we cannot tell you which is cheaper. The honest comparison needs your carrier's international day-pass price, which you can look up in a minute. What we can say is what the Zambia eSIM looks like on price: a cheap Zambia data plan costs $3.70/GB at its best rate, and 1 GB costs $7.50. If your carrier's roaming pass beats those numbers for your days, use that.

Zambian SIM registration is mandatory. MTN Zambia's own registration page says a non-Zambian applicant registers with a foreign passport carrying a valid visa or permit (or a refugee or asylum certificate), at an MTN store or a SIM registration point. That applies to a physical local SIM; an eSIM from a travel seller is a different product and we have not checked how it is registered. We did not read Airtel or Zamtel's own pages.

What to know before you buy a Zambia travel SIM

Install the eSIM before you leave if the seller allows it, and check that your phone is carrier-unlocked and supports eSIM. Airalo's page for the country is the authority on the plan's current price and terms: Airalo's Zambia page. Our figures are a snapshot from 8 October 2026 and can change.

For how Zambia sits against other countries and sellers, see the cheapest eSIM plans, the provider comparison, the Africa guide and Airalo. We explain how we gather data on how we test. This is desk research from public sources; we did not test the plans on a phone.
