eSIMCard in Portugal: no price from us, and why

Both Portuguese rows have been withdrawn

This review held two eSIMCard plans for Portugal and argued about where their price advantage ran out. Both rows have now been withdrawn — removed from the table here and from the cheapest-per-gigabyte ranking across the site — so there is no advantage left to trace.

They used to carry an indicative label — our figure, not read off a live checkout, but presumed to be somewhere near the mark. On 18 August 2026 we read eSIMCard's own pages, and that presumption failed. The entry plan our data priced identically across fifteen unrelated countries sells for well under half of it on eSIMCard's Japanese page, and the sizes we listed match neither of the tiers it actually offers. A figure you have checked and found wrong is not indicative; it is wrong.

We could not put the right prices in their place either. Our records hold a plan as four things — provider, size, days, price — and eSIMCard's catalogue does not resolve to four things. A Standard/Universal toggle swaps its whole range between two product lines, each plan carries a speed-limit flag that only appears inside its own details modal, and the carrier list varies from plan to plan. One price per size would have merged a throttled plan and a full-speed one into a single row. Our eSIMCard page sets out the full reasoning.

The network, and why it is not the deciding factor

NOS is the network we recommend for visitors to Portugal — the strongest all-rounder for road trips, the Algarve coast and Madeira — with MEO equally good in rural areas. Portugal's average speed is around 50 Mbps and the three major networks all run 5G in Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve.

The carriers our own records held against eSIMCard's Portuguese rows came from this site's generated text rather than from eSIMCard, so we no longer present them as its listing. The other four — Airalo, Saily, Nomad and Holafly — name nothing anywhere. The coverage gaps are shared too, and no provider fixes them: the interior of the Alentejo and the mountainous Trás-os-Montes, dead spots on some Algarve cliff walking trails, limited coverage on the remote Azores islands of Flores and Corvo, and patches in the Douro Valley on the boat tours.

What eSIMCard still does that nobody else does

eSIMCard is the only one of the six sellers on this site that publishes the host network at all. We read that directly: its Japan page names three Japanese operators against its plans, in a Supported Countries & Networks block. Airalo, Nomad, Saily and Holafly name no operator in any country, and eSIM Go has no consumer page on which it could. That is a genuine difference, and the price check left it untouched.

The carriers our own records held against its rows here came from this site's generated text rather than from eSIMCard, so those are ours to withdraw and not its claim to defend. Its own country listing is the place to look. Portugal is a country where the answer would be reassuring rather than decisive: the three major networks all run 5G in Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve.

Verdict

We have no Portuguese price for eSIMCard, so this page no longer places it against anyone. That is a gap in our records rather than a judgement on the shop.
