Nomad in Portugal: it owns the unlimited ladder and loses the metered one

This page previously listed six Nomad plans and priced four of them wrong, including a three-day unlimited at $9.33 that Nomad does not sell. The real range is ten plans, read from nomadesim.com on 18 August 2026.

Unlimited runs alongside: $11 for three days, $18 for five, $25 for seven and $33 for ten.

Every metered price we had published was above the real one — $12 rather than $10 at 5 GB, $18 rather than $16 at 10 GB, $28 rather than $20 at 20 GB — and the 50 GB plan was missing entirely. Hotspot sharing is supported. No calls or texts on any plan.

The unlimited ladder is the reason to be here

Nomad is the cheapest unlimited seller in Portugal at every length the market shares, on verified prices:

The margins are small — 50 cents to $2 — but they run one way at every length, and Nomad's figures and Airalo's have both been read off their own checkouts. The old claim on this page, that Nomad undercut the field by 19% on a $9.33 three-day plan, was an artefact of a price nobody had checked. The direction was right; the size of it was not.

For a long weekend in Lisbon or a two-night stop in Porto, $11 buys uncapped data for a dollar more than Nomad's own 3 GB month, and you are not rationing anything. Three days is exactly the length of trip Portugal generates in volume, thanks to the short-hop flights from across Europe.

The caveat is the shape. Nomad's unlimited stops at ten days. Airalo sells 15-day and 30-day unlimited at $48 and $69, and Holafly lists $50.90 and $74.90; if your trip is longer than a fortnight, Nomad has no uncapped plan for it.

The metered plans still lose

Portugal is one of the countries where Airalo's verified prices beat Nomad's, and the corrected figures do not change that — they only narrow it.

The 10 GB comparison is the one that should decide it: Airalo charges $11 for the same data over the same month, a third less. At 50 GB the gap is $10, and Airalo's $0.70 a gigabyte is the cheapest rate in Portugal against Nomad's $0.90.

The entry plan is a similar story. Nomad's 1 GB over seven days is $4.50, against Saily's verified $3.99 for the same shape and Airalo's verified $4 for three days.

So the shape of the recommendation survives the correction, with the reasoning inverted: it used to be that Nomad's metered plans were priced far above checked alternatives, and it is now that they are priced modestly above them. Either way, Airalo is the metered buy in Portugal.

Network, 5G and coverage

This page used to say Nomad's Portugal listing named MEO and NOS and described the connection as 5G capable. Neither claim came from Nomad. Nomad publishes no host network for Portugal, or for any of the 47 countries we hold its prices for, and there is no 5G claim in our data against it. Both have been removed rather than qualified.

Airalo and Saily publish nothing either. Holafly names nothing either. The carriers our own data carried against eSIMCard's rows here came from this site's generated text rather than from eSIMCard, so we no longer repeat them — it is the only one of the six that publishes a host network at all, so its own listing is the place to look.

What is dependable is the country picture. Portuguese coverage is good on the coast and in the cities, and thins in the interior of the Alentejo and in Trás-os-Montes, along parts of the Algarve cliff walking trails, and on the outer Azores, where Flores and Corvo are limited. If your Portugal is Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve resorts, none of that will trouble you.

Verdict

Buy Nomad's unlimited if your trip is ten days or shorter and you want to stop counting — it is the cheapest uncapped plan in the country at three, five, seven and ten days, on checked prices, and the three-day at $11 is the standout.

Buy your metered data from Airalo. Its verified $11 for 10 GB and $35 for 50 GB are well under Nomad's $16 and $45, and the Portugal hub lists the rest. As always in the EU, check your own SIM first: an EU or EEA plan roams in Portugal on your home allowance, and a local prepaid SIM is about $15 at the airport with no ID needed.
