eSIM Go in Portugal: nothing on sale, and no network to name

What is confirmed

One thing, and it accounts for everything else on this page. eSIM Go sells wholesale to resellers rather than to travellers. Checked on 18 August 2026, esim-go.com carries no consumer price anywhere: no basket, no checkout, Contact Sales instead of Buy now, and no per-country consumer pages, which return 404.

So there is no Portuguese rate to get. The older advice here — get the current rate from eSIM Go's own product page — pointed at a page that does not exist, and it has gone. Our eSIM Go platform page sets out the full finding.

What we removed

The price. Our Portugal plan data holds rows for Saily, Airalo, Nomad and Holafly, none for eSIM Go, and none any longer for eSIMCard. The figure that appeared on the previous version of this page was $0, which is obviously not a price anyone charges.

The network. This page used to be built around eSIM Go being the one provider that paired NOS with Vodafone rather than MEO, and it worked through what that pairing meant inland. None of it was sourced, and eSIM Go has no consumer page on which it could have said any of it. The distinction the page turned on did not exist.

The hotspot tick. The page opened by confirming tethering support. That came from the same generated corpus and was never checkable.

Nobody in this market names a network you can rely on

Airalo publishes no Portuguese host carrier. Neither does Saily, whose pages promise only a reliable connection from the country's best networks. Neither does Nomad — not for Portugal, and not for any of the 47 countries whose prices we have now read directly off its own site. An earlier version of this page had Nomad pairing NOS with MEO; that came from our own generated data and it was wrong.

Holafly names none either — the carriers our data once held against its Portuguese rows came from our own older text rather than from Holafly. eSIMCard does publish host carriers on its country pages, confirmed on its Japanese one, but we have not read its page for this country and hold no network for it here.

So there is no network comparison to make in Portugal at all. If knowing your carrier matters, the answer is a local SIM, and the next section explains why that is easier here than almost anywhere.

What the networks are actually like

NOS is the network we would recommend on its own merits — the best all-rounder for road trips, the Algarve coast and Madeira. MEO is its equal for rural inland travel. Vodafone Portugal is excellent in the cities and tourist areas. All three run 5G in Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve, and the national average is around 50 Mbps, so in town the choice makes little practical difference.

Some gaps are shared by everyone, and apply to every plan alike:

• The interior Alentejo and mountainous Trás-os-Montes
• Dead spots on some Algarve cliff walking trails
• The remote Azores islands of Flores and Corvo, where coverage is limited
• The Douro Valley, with gaps on the wine country boat tours

What a Portuguese plan is worth

Hold any quote against these, including one from a brand you have not heard of. Airalo's figures were read from its own site on 13 August 2026, Saily's on 16 August and Nomad's on 18 August; the rest are indicative.

Portugal is a cheap market, and Airalo is the one to beat at almost every size. $2.90 gets you in at the bottom and 70 cents a gigabyte is available at the top. Any plan needs to sit inside that range to be worth considering, and there is no coverage story that would justify paying above it.

If unlimited is what interests you, note that Nomad's verified unlimited starts at $11 for three days and Holafly's indicative unlimited at $11.70, that Saily sells no unlimited plan for Portugal at all, and that Holafly alone among these providers blocks hotspot.

The harder competitor is Portugal itself

Portuguese prepaid SIMs require no ID. You walk up, pay and leave — no passport, no registration form. Tourist packages run €10–20 for 10–30GB at Lisbon, Porto and Faro airports and at carrier stores nationwide, with peak queues of roughly 10, 8 and 15 minutes respectively.

That is a strong offer, and it is the one any travel eSIM really has to beat if you use more than a few gigabytes. It is also the only purchase in Portugal that tells you which network you are on. Free wifi is excellent across the country, so you can land, get online at the airport and decide at leisure.

Bottom line

There is no eSIM Go plan to buy in Portugal, and the NOS-and-Vodafone pairing that this page was once built around was our invention rather than the company's claim.

So the decision is between the sellers with checkouts, and it is price alone, because none of them will tell you what network you get. Airalo is the one to beat at almost every size — and a Portuguese prepaid SIM, bought with no ID at all, is the only purchase that tells you which network you are on.
