Airalo in Portugal: every price here has been checked

The range, and what it really costs

Portugal is one of the countries where our Airalo data is complete: 18 plans, all read off Airalo's own checkout on 13 August 2026 rather than inferred. That matters here more than usual, because the previous version of this page listed six plans at prices that turn out to be wrong in every case — it quoted $31 for the 50 GB plan and $18 for 10 GB. Neither figure survived contact with the checkout.

Here is the metered range, priced by the gigabyte:

Unlimited is sold separately, at $11.50 for three days, $19 for five, $27 for seven, $34.50 for ten, $48 for 15 and $69 for a month. Hotspot sharing is supported. No calls or texts are included on any plan; messaging runs over data.

Extra days cost almost nothing

The most useful quirk in Airalo's Portugal pricing is how little duration costs. Five gigabytes is $7.50 over seven days, $8 over 15 and $9 over 30 — an extra three weeks of validity for $1.50. Ten gigabytes goes $10, $10.50, $11 across the same three windows.

The practical advice follows directly: always buy the longest version of the size you want. The saving from a shorter window is a few cents, and the cost of a plan expiring on the day your flight is delayed is buying a second one. This is not true everywhere, and it is not true of the providers here that sell only 30-day terms.

Where Airalo loses

At the bottom of the range. Airalo's entry plan is 1 GB for three days at $4, and one rival beats it on the shape of the deal: Saily's verified price is $3.99 for a gigabyte over a full week. That figure has been read off Saily's own site, so the cent is real and the four extra days come with it. If all you want is enough data to order a Bolt and load a boarding pass, Airalo is not the obvious pick.

At the top, the picture reverses completely. Nothing else in our Portugal data reaches 50 GB. One size down, Airalo's verified 20 GB month is $19 against Nomad's verified $20 and Saily's verified $27.99. If you are working from Lisbon or Porto for a month, the gap that matters is Saily's — $1.40 a gigabyte against $0.95. An earlier version of this page put Nomad at $28 here, on a figure nobody had checked.

Everything between those two ends now goes Airalo's way against Saily, and both sides of that comparison are verified: $9 against $9.99 at 5 GB, and $11 against $16.99 at 10 GB, all over 30 days.

Unlimited is a closer call than it looks. Airalo's seven-day unlimited is $27; Holafly's is an indicative $27.30, and Nomad's is a verified $25, which makes Nomad the cheapest unlimited at every window the three of them share. But unlimited only makes sense above about 30 GB a week. Below that, the 20 GB metered month at $19 is better value than any unlimited plan on this page.

The network we can't tell you

Airalo does not publish which Portuguese network its plans roam onto — not here, and not in any country. An earlier version of this page named NOS, MEO and Vodafone Portugal and called that combination the widest-coverage option for tourists. That was not sourced from anything, and it has been removed. If a specific network is what you need, buy a local prepaid SIM: they cost about $15 at the airport and no ID is required.

Coverage in Portugal is strong along the coast and in both big cities, and weaker where you would expect: the interior of the Alentejo and the Trás-os-Montes mountains, dead spots on the Algarve cliff walking trails, and the remote Azores, where Flores and Corvo are patchy. That applies whoever you buy from.

Verdict

Airalo is the right choice in Portugal for anyone using more than about 5 GB, and the clear one above 10 GB, because the prices are checked and nothing else competes at 20 GB and 50 GB. For a two-day city break, buy something cheaper. And check your own SIM first — Portugal is in the EU, so an EU or EEA plan roams there on your home allowance.
