Airalo in the Netherlands: matched to the cent below 20GB, alone above it

The one place Airalo is beaten

At 1GB, Airalo is near the worst buy in the Netherlands. It charges $4 and gives you three days. Saily asks $3.99 for the same gigabyte over a longer window; Nomad charges $4.50 for a week, the dearest of the three.

Saily's $3.99 was read from Saily's own site on 16 August 2026 and is verified, as is Airalo's $4 and Nomad's $4.50, read on 18 August. The validity difference is the part that will not shift: seven days is seven days, and Airalo's cheapest Netherlands plan expires on day three whatever it costs.

If your trip is a 48-hour Amsterdam stop and you want the smallest possible purchase, start elsewhere.

From 5GB up, a penny separates the top two

Above the entry tier the field narrows to two sellers, and they are almost exactly level.

Saily is one cent cheaper at each of the three shared sizes. Both columns have been read from the sellers' own sites, so the margin is real — and a penny is not a reason to choose anything. Buy on whichever app or refund policy you prefer, because the money is identical.

The 50GB row is where Airalo is genuinely alone. At $36.00 it works out at 72 cents a gigabyte, against $1.35 at 20GB, and no other provider in our Dutch data sells a plan that size at all. If you are here for a month or working from a laptop, that is the plan and there is no competing quote to weigh it against.

An earlier version of this page said Nomad's Netherlands range topped out at 3GB. That was a gap in our data rather than in Nomad's range: it sells up to 50GB, and its verified 10GB and 20GB months at $16 and $20 undercut Airalo's $18 and $27 outright. Airalo wins the 50GB row, at $36 against Nomad's $45, and the small sizes, where Nomad's 3GB month is $9 against Saily's verified $7.99.

Airalo also charges very little for time, which is unusual. Its 5GB costs $9 for 7 days, $9.50 for 15 and $10 for 30. Its 10GB runs $16.50, $17.50, $18 across the same windows. Buying a month instead of a week costs about a dollar, so there is rarely a reason to buy the short one.

Unlimited: under Holafly at every length

Holafly built its business on uncapped data. In the Netherlands it no longer wins on price at a single duration in our data.

The margins are small at the short end — 20 cents at three days is noise — but Airalo's column is verified and Holafly's is not, and at 15 and 30 days the gap reaches $2.90 and $5.90. On the numbers we hold, there is no duration at which Holafly's unlimited is the cheaper uncapped option here.

Whether you need uncapped data in the Netherlands is another question. Airalo's 20GB for 30 days at $27 costs the same as its 7-day unlimited, and 20GB is a lot of gigabytes for a country this well wired.

No published network — in the country where that matters least

Airalo does not publish a host network for the Netherlands, and it does not publish one for anywhere else either. Our data holds nothing for it. Saily is now in the same column: we read its site on 16 August 2026 and it names no operator anywhere, so an older KPN attribution in our data has gone. Nomad is in that column too: it names no operator for the Netherlands or for any of the 47 countries it sells, and an older KPN and Odido attribution in our data has gone with it. Holafly is in the column too: reading its own pages showed it names no operator for the Netherlands or for any of the countries we checked, and the Vodafone Netherlands attribution our data carried against some of its plans has gone with the rest. That leaves one seller listing anything at all — eSIMCard, which points at KPN and Odido — and that listing has never been confirmed either way, so we would not price a decision on it.

In most countries that blank is a real cost. Here it is close to free. The Netherlands is flat, small and densely populated, and coverage is effectively uniform for tourist purposes. The thin spots are narrow: some of the North Sea Wadden Islands, and the interior of the Hoge Veluwe forest. Unless your itinerary is Vlieland or a long walk through the Veluwe, which carrier you land on will not change your trip.

The plans carry no calls or SMS — data only, so no Dutch number, and WhatsApp does the rest. Hotspot tethering is supported.

Verdict, and whether you need an eSIM at all

Check the free option first. The Netherlands is in the EU, and an EU or EEA phone plan roams here at home rates within its fair-use cap. A great many visitors should buy nothing.

If you do need something, note that Dutch prepaid SIMs need no ID at all — you buy and go, no registration counter, from KPN, Odido or Vodafone at around $18 at the airport. That is genuinely frictionless, and it is the reason Airalo's advantage is narrower here than the tables suggest. But $18 is also exactly what Airalo charges for 10GB over 30 days, and the eSIM is live before you land.

Buy Airalo in the Netherlands for the 50GB month, or for unlimited at any length — those are the tiers where it has no real competition. Between 5GB and 20GB it is a coin flip with Saily, decided by a single cent in Saily's favour, so pick on preference rather than price. Look elsewhere for the 1GB tier.
