XL Axiata Indonesia SIM card: the tourist eSIM, prices and what you need

XL sells a tourist eSIM online before you arrive. Plans ran from Rp46,000 to Rp168,000 when we read the page, and a passport and IMEI are needed.

Is an XL Axiata Indonesia SIM card good for a tourist?

It is one of the few Indonesian carriers whose tourist eSIM we could read in full, and it can be bought online before you arrive. Our network notes call XL competitive in Bali and Java, and rank Telkomsel higher for remote islands. We have not verified that on XL's site. What follows is only what XL's page says.

What does the XL tourist eSIM cost?

On XL's tourist eSIM page, read on 8 October 2026, the Xtra Combo Flex eSIM plans were:

  • M: 14 GB for Rp46,000
  • L: 30 GB for Rp70,000
  • XL: 55 GB for Rp100,000
  • XXL: 80 GB for Rp140,000
  • XXXL: 15 GB for Rp168,000

The last line looks like a typo, as 15 GB costs more than 80 GB. Confirm the real allowance before paying. The page does not state how long a plan lasts, so we cannot give validity. XL's tourist eSIM needs a compatible phone; the page says newer-generation phones qualify and warns about counterfeit devices, without a model list in the text we read.

What documents and steps does the XL tourist eSIM need?

The page tells you to prepare your passport, an email address and your phone's IMEI, because they feed the registration form Indonesia's government requires. You can pay by card before arriving in Indonesia. It does not describe how the eSIM is delivered; it says to use the chat with an agent on the web, or the email after successful payment, to activate. Plan to be able to receive an email and open the chat on arrival.

What does XL say about coverage and XL Axiata 5G?

XL's page promises 4G LTE connectivity "anywhere you go in Indonesia" and a top-tier network. It makes no 5G claim and gives no speeds, so these are marketing statements, not coverage data. XL's parent site says the company merged with Smartfren in April 2025 as XLSMART, which keeps XL and Smartfren as brands; see the Smartfren page.

XL eSIM or another travel eSIM?

XL's own tourist eSIM works like a travel eSIM, bought online before you fly, with the added step of passport and IMEI registration. Compare it with other eSIM prices on the cheapest eSIM page. For other local networks see Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo and Three (Tri). Our Indonesia SIM card comparison lays out the options, the Indonesia hub has the rest, and travel eSIM prices are on the cheapest eSIM page.
