Three (Tri) Indonesia SIM card: the little Tri's pages let us verify

Tri's registration and eSIM pages loaded as titles only. We cannot confirm prices, visitor options or document rules from Tri itself.

Is a Three (Tri) Indonesia SIM card a good choice for a visitor?

We cannot recommend or rule it out from Tri's own pages, because their content did not load for us on 8 October 2026. This page is short for that reason, and we would rather say so than pad it. The brand is "Tri", sold in Indonesia as Tri Indonesia and formerly marketed as "3"; our notes list it as "Three".

What did Tri's pages actually show?

Tri's prepaid registration page, which we opened, lists these topics: NIK (the national ID number), passport for foreigners, face verification, limits and deadlines. The text under each topic did not load, so we cannot tell you what a foreigner must do, whether there is a deadline or how many numbers one passport can register. The eSIM page and the starter-pack terms likewise loaded as titles only. Do not treat the topic list as the rule.

That list is still a useful hint: it suggests a passport route for foreigners exists. Whether you can complete it as a short-stay visitor is unconfirmed.

What about Tri's coverage and 5G?

Tri's About page loaded as a title only, so we have no Tri coverage, 4G or 5G statements. Our network notes say Indonesia's 5G is limited and that Telkomsel has the widest reach, but we have not verified either on Tri's site.

How does Tri relate to Indosat?

Search listings of the Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison website show IM3 and Tri Indonesia as brands of one company, matching our notes of a merger. We could not open the merger announcement. The Indosat Ooredoo page covers what IM3's site showed.

Tri or a travel eSIM?

With the registration rules unconfirmed, a travel eSIM bought before you fly is the more predictable choice for a short stay. For a networks overview, see Telkomsel, XL Axiata and Smartfren. Our Indonesia SIM card comparison lays out the options, the Indonesia hub has the rest, and travel eSIM prices are on the cheapest eSIM page.

Common questions

Can a tourist register a Three (Tri) Indonesia SIM card?

Tri's registration page lists a passport-for-foreigners topic, so a route seems to exist. The page text under it did not load, so we cannot confirm what is required. Ask Tri or an official outlet.

Is Tri the same as Three in Indonesia?

Yes, our notes list Three and Tri as the same Indonesian brand, formerly marketed as 3. Search listings of the Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison website show Tri Indonesia as a brand alongside IM3.

Does Tri Indonesia sell an eSIM?

Tri has an eSIM page, but its content did not load for us, so we cannot confirm prices, conditions or whether visitors can buy one. Check Tri's site directly.

Does Tri require face verification?

Tri's registration page lists face verification among its topics, but we could not read the details. Expect that registration may involve more than a simple form, and check before you rely on it.

What is the safest SIM option for a short Indonesia trip?

A travel eSIM installed before you fly, since it avoids local registration steps we could not verify. Compare prices on the cheapest eSIM page and our Indonesia comparison.
