Indosat Ooredoo Indonesia SIM card: IM3 prepaid and what we could verify

Indosat's consumer brand is IM3. Its site points to a Visiting Indonesia page and online SIM shop, but gave us no visitor prices or document rules.

Is an Indosat Ooredoo Indonesia SIM card a good choice for a visitor?

We cannot say from Indosat's own pages, because the visitor details did not load. Indosat's consumer prepaid brand is IM3, and the IM3 site we read links to a Visiting Indonesia page, an online SIM shop, a store locator and a coverage checker. The Visiting Indonesia page itself loaded only as an unfilled template, with no prices, data amounts, validity or document requirements. That is a gap in what we could read, not a statement that nothing is offered.

What does the IM3 site offer?

On the IM3 site we read on 8 October 2026 you can find: a Buy SIM Card shop, a Buy Package page, Prepaid Activation, Store Location, and a Coverage Area page. Under roaming it lists a Visiting Indonesia page. We could not read the products behind those links, so we give no prices.

Registration is a theme in what we found. A search listing for IM3's eSIM page says the number must complete prepaid registration before use, but we did not read it in full, so we cannot say what a foreigner must show. Do not assume a passport route exists until IM3 says so.

What does Indosat say about coverage and Indosat 5G?

The IM3 page links a coverage checker that lists 2G, 4G and 5G, and describes Indosat 5G as giving a more stable connection. It gives no speeds, percentages or list of places, so it is a pointer rather than a coverage claim you can rely on. Use the checker for the islands on your route, such as Bali.

Is Indosat the same as Tri?

Our notes list "Indosat Ooredoo (Tri merger)", and a search listing of the Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison website shows IM3 and Tri Indonesia as brands of one company. We could not open that page to confirm the merger terms, so read the Three (Tri) page for what Tri's pages showed.

Indosat prepaid or a travel eSIM?

For a short trip, a travel eSIM bought before you fly avoids the outlet visit and any registration unknowns, which is the main reason to prefer it here. For other networks see Telkomsel, XL Axiata and Smartfren. Our Indonesia SIM card comparison lays out the options, the Indonesia hub has the rest, and travel eSIM prices are on the cheapest eSIM page.
