Airalo in Switzerland: a wide verified ladder with one strange rung

The verified ladder

Airalo has more Switzerland plans than any other provider we hold, and unlike most of the field its prices were read from Airalo's own site on 13 August 2026 rather than carried as estimates. The metered range:

There are also 15-day variants at most sizes, usually 50 cents to $1.50 above the 7-day plan. Hotspot tethering works throughout. No plan includes calls or SMS.

The 50GB rung is where the pricing breaks

Read the last two rows again. Twenty gigabytes costs $36. Fifty gigabytes costs $45. The extra thirty gigabytes are priced at thirty cents each, against $1.80 each in the plan below, and the 50GB plan is the cheapest per gigabyte in the whole Swiss dataset — not just Airalo's part of it.

That makes the 20GB plan very hard to justify. If you are contemplating $36, another nine dollars buys you two and a half times the data on the same 30-day validity. And if you are hesitating between 10GB at $23 and 20GB at $36, the honest answer is that $45 buys more headroom than either and costs less than the sum of two 10GB purchases.

Switzerland is an expensive place to run short of data, so the trip where this matters is a longer one — a fortnight of driving, a season of ski weekends, anything where you are hotspotting a laptop from a chalet.

Unlimited, and when it is worth it

Airalo's unlimited plans run $11.50 for 3 days, $18 for 5, $25 for 7, $34 for 10, $46 for 15 and $68 for 30, all verified. Against the metered ladder they usually lose. Unlimited for a week costs $25 where 10GB over the same week costs $21.50, and 10GB is more than most travellers use in seven days.

The exception is the short heavy trip. Unlimited for 3 days at $11.50 is only $3 above the 3GB / 3-day plan, and three gigabytes disappears fast if you are navigating mountain roads and uploading photographs. On a 30-day stay, unlimited at $68 against 50GB at $45 is a $23 premium for a ceiling most people never touch.

Where Airalo gets beaten

At the bottom, and by a penny in the middle. Airalo's cheapest Swiss plan is $4 for 1GB over 3 days. Saily's 1GB / 7 days is $3.99 with more than twice the validity, and that figure is verified — we read it off Saily's own site on 16 August 2026.

Saily also shadows Airalo through the middle of the range, at $13.99 against $14 for 5GB over 30 days and $22.99 against $23 for 10GB. That is a real one-cent undercut and it should not move anyone. At 20GB the order reverses — Saily charges $36.99 against Airalo's $36 — and above that Saily has no metered plan at all.

Nomad beats Airalo at four sizes on prices read from its own site on 17 August 2026 — $12.50 against $14 at 5GB, $20.50 against $23 at 10GB, $25 against $36 at 20GB and $43 against $45 at 50GB. The 20GB gap is the one worth having, and it is eleven dollars rather than the three this page used to report. Holafly also sells unlimited for a single day at an indicative $3.90, which nothing in Airalo's range can answer for a one-night stopover.

What nobody can tell you about the mountains

Airalo does not publish which Swiss network its plans roam onto, in Switzerland or anywhere else. Our data holds nothing for it, and the same caution applies to the other providers' listings, which came from their own marketing rather than an independent check.

In most countries we would say that hardly matters. In Switzerland it can. Coverage thins on high-altitude runs and off-piste terrain above 3,000 m, there is no signal above certain altitudes near the Matterhorn summit, and remote hiking trails drop out entirely. Which network you are on genuinely changes what happens up there — and with a travel eSIM in Switzerland, you cannot find out before you buy.

If that is your trip, a local prepaid SIM costs around $20 at the airport with no ID required, sold by Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt Mobile, and you pick the operator yourself at the counter. That is the only way to control this variable.

Verdict

For city and valley travel, Airalo is the strongest Swiss option we hold, purely because its prices are checked and its range is deep. Buy 50GB if you are anywhere near needing 20. Buy short unlimited only for short heavy trips. For high alpine days, buy a local SIM and choose the network. The rest of the field sits on our Switzerland hub.
