Sunrise Switzerland SIM card: the prepaid travel eSIM
Sunrise sells a prepaid eSIM at 2.50 francs per day of use, with optional Europe packs. It requires an ID upload and a short video selfie.
Is a Sunrise Switzerland SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
It is good for flexible trips, and worth the ID step if you are visiting more than once. A Sunrise Switzerland SIM card for visitors is the Prepaid Travel eSIM, which Sunrise describes as pay-as-you-use, with no contract and no minimum term.
What does the Sunrise prepaid travel eSIM cost?
Sunrise's travel eSIM page (read 8 October 2026) gives the basic rate, Unlimited CH, as CHF 2.50 per 24 hours of use for data, calls and texts in Switzerland. The CHF 20 starting credit lasts about 8 days. You pay only for days you use it.
Two add-ons, Europe 7 and Europe 30, add 7 or 30 days of data in Switzerland and 46 European countries. Europe data is 60 GB at high speed, then 256 kbps, and Swiss data is unlimited and does not count toward that 60 GB. Validity starts at first use, and you must activate within 365 days of purchase. A list of excluded countries includes Albania, Bosnia, Serbia and Russia. After the package ends, the basic rate applies again.
What do you need to activate it?
An ID check is required: you upload an ID and record a short video selfie before activation. A foreign address is acceptable for the eSIM. Activation works with or without a QR code. You top up online or in person at listed retailers, and check balance on *121# or in the app. Unused SIMs are deleted after 17 months without use, with any remaining credit. SIMs cannot be returned or cancelled.
A search extract of Sunrise's community forum also showed visitors who could not log in to My Sunrise without a Swiss number. These are individual reports, not Sunrise policy, but they are worth knowing about before you buy.
What does Sunrise say about coverage?
The page we read makes no coverage or 5G claim. Our own Swiss notes say all three operators offer 5G in cities, which we could not confirm on Sunrise's page. Sunrise has a coverage map to check for mountain areas.
Sunrise SIM card or a travel eSIM?
For a week of normal use the daily rate sits between a basic travel eSIM and Swisscom's flat price. The ID step is the cost; a travel eSIM from a foreign provider usually has none. No provider except eSIMCard publishes its host network. Compare on our Switzerland SIM card page and cheapest eSIM. Read also Swisscom and Salt Mobile, or the Switzerland hub.
