Salt Mobile Switzerland SIM card: prepay and eSIM for visitors
Salt has a prepay SIM and an eSIM, but no tourist product we could verify. Its eSIM QR code arrives by post, so it is a poor fit for a short visit.
Is a Salt Mobile Switzerland SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
Usually not for a short trip. A Salt Mobile Switzerland SIM card exists as a no-contract prepay option, but we found no tourist plan, and the way Salt delivers its eSIM suits residents. Salt's travel subscriptions that appeared in search are contract plans, so they do not suit a visitor either.
What does Salt Mobile prepay offer?
Salt's PrePay page returned an access error when we opened it, so we read it only through a search extract. It described a no-contract prepay with no monthly fee and data packages valid in Switzerland only, with unlimited surfing offered by the day. We do not give prices from an extract. Check salt.ch for current packages and daily rates.
Can a visitor get a Salt eSIM?
Salt's eSIM page (read 8 October 2026) says eSIM is available for prepaid customers in the same way as a physical SIM. Switching from a physical SIM to an eSIM costs CHF 59 at any Salt Store. The QR code arrives by post, in an eSIM voucher, and you need internet access to download the profile, ideally Wi-Fi. The SIM PIN is off by default and printed on the voucher.
The post is the issue. A visitor cannot wait for a letter, and the page does not describe a way to get the QR code on the spot at a store. It also does not state whether a tourist can buy a prepaid line, or what ID registration is needed.
What does Salt say about coverage?
The pages we could read make no coverage or 5G claim. Our Swiss notes say all three operators offer 5G in cities and that Swisscom has the widest reach, but we cannot confirm anything for Salt from its own site. Check Salt's coverage map before you rely on it in the mountains.
Salt Mobile SIM card or a travel eSIM?
For a visit, a travel eSIM bought and installed at home avoids stores and post. Salt is relevant if you live in Switzerland for a while and want an ordinary prepaid line. No travel eSIM provider except eSIMCard publishes its host network, so we do not say whether any uses Salt. See our Switzerland SIM card comparison and cheapest eSIM. For stronger visitor options, read Swisscom and Sunrise. The Switzerland hub has more.
Common questions
Does Salt Mobile have a tourist SIM card?
We found no tourist plan on Salt's pages. Its travel subscriptions that appeared in search results are contract plans. Salt does have a no-contract prepay SIM with packages valid in Switzerland only, per an extract of its PrePay page.
How much is a Salt eSIM?
Salt's eSIM page says switching from a physical SIM to an eSIM costs CHF 59 at any Salt Store. It does not state the price of a new prepaid eSIM for a visitor, so ask Salt before relying on this route.
How do I get a Salt eSIM QR code?
Salt says the QR code arrives by post in an eSIM voucher. You then need internet access, preferably Wi-Fi, to download the profile. Postal delivery makes it a poor fit for a short visit.
Do I need ID to buy a Salt Mobile SIM?
The pages we could read do not say what a visitor needs to buy or register a prepay SIM. Ask in a Salt Store and bring your passport.
Is Salt better than a travel eSIM for Switzerland?
For a short trip, no. A travel eSIM can be installed at home, while Salt's eSIM QR code arrives by post. Salt may suit longer stays. We cannot say which network any travel eSIM uses unless the provider publishes it.
