Airalo in Norway: eighteen plans, and one rule that saves money

All eighteen of Airalo's Norway plans were read off Airalo's own site on 13 August 2026, and all ten of Nomad's were read off Nomad's on 17 August 2026, so the Airalo-against-Nomad comparisons below are like for like. The Saily figures quoted further down were read off Saily's own checkout on 18 August 2026. Only Holafly's have since been verified.

There are twelve metered plans and six unlimited ones. No calls or SMS on any of them — messaging runs over data. Hotspot tethering is supported on all plans, which matters in Norway if you are working from a cabin or a long train.

Always buy the longest validity

Airalo prices validity almost as an afterthought in Norway. Take the same amount of data and stretch the window, and the cost barely moves.

Fifty cents to a dollar buys you an extra three weeks. There is essentially no reason to buy the seven-day version of any of these. Norwegian trips have a habit of stretching — a weather day in Bergen, a ferry that does not run, a decision to go north after all — and the 30-day plan removes the risk of the eSIM expiring at the worst moment for the price of a coffee. Buy the long one every time.

The short plans exist for genuinely short trips: 1GB over three days is $4.00, and 3GB over three days is $7.00.

What a gigabyte costs, and why unlimited doesn't work

The ladder rewards buying up, hard.

The 50GB plan is under a third the unit cost of the 5GB one. If you are close to a decision between 20GB and 50GB, the extra thirty gigabytes cost $10.50 — the same as the entire 5GB plan.

Against Nomad the picture splits. An earlier version of this page said our indicative Nomad rows undercut Airalo at every matched size, quoting $9.00 at 5GB, $22.00 at 20GB and $29.00 at 50GB. Those numbers were wrong. Nomad's checked Norway prices are $12.50 at 5GB, $16.00 at 10GB, $20.00 at 20GB and $45.00 at 50GB, which leaves Airalo cheaper at 5GB ($10.50) and cheaper by $9 at 50GB ($36.00), with Nomad ahead in the middle at 10GB and 20GB. Both ladders have now been read off the sellers' own checkouts, so those gaps are real rather than provisional. Saily's 1GB over seven days is $3.99, a cent under Airalo's 1GB — and it lasts four days longer. That figure has now been checked, along with the rest of Saily's Norwegian ladder.

Unlimited does not rescue the top of the range. Airalo's unlimited plans run $11.50 for three days, $18.50 for five, $27.00 for seven, $34.50 for ten, $48.00 for fifteen and $69.00 for thirty. That last one is nearly double the verified 50GB plan. To justify it you would have to use more than 95GB in the month, which is not travel usage, it is a home broadband replacement.

Holafly's indicative unlimited prices also undercut Airalo's at the longer lengths — $29.90 for ten days, $39.90 for fifteen and $64.90 for thirty. So Airalo's unlimited range is neither the cheapest unlimited option nor a rational alternative to its own metered plans. Skip it and buy gigabytes.

The thing Airalo will not tell you

Airalo does not publish a host network for Norway, and it does not publish one for any country. That is a real limitation here rather than a technicality. Norwegian coverage is genuinely uneven: the mountain plateaus of Hardangervidda and Finnmarksvidda, remote valleys in Sogn og Fjordane, deep fjord side valleys off the main roads, and open sea beyond about 12km from the coast are all places where which operator you are on changes your day. Buying Airalo, you cannot know in advance. Nor can you with Saily or Nomad, which publish nothing either.

What Airalo does solve is paperwork. A Norwegian physical SIM needs a passport or ID for registration, and costs around $18 at the airport. No ID is required to buy an eSIM, so if you land late or want the connection working before you clear customs, that is the practical argument for it. If you carry an EU or EEA plan, note that Norway is in the EEA and you may already roam here at your domestic rate.

Verdict

Airalo is the buy in Norway at the small end and at the top. Airalo's 5GB month is $10.50 against Nomad's $12.50, and its 50GB month $36.00 against Nomad's $45.00. Take the 30-day version of whatever size you need, ignore the unlimited tier entirely, and go up a size before you go up a duration.
