Holafly in Denmark: what unlimited actually costs

The ladder

Holafly does one thing in Denmark: unlimited data, sold by duration. No gigabyte tiers, no top-ups to think about.

A correction, and a large one. This page previously printed a seven-rung Danish ladder — a one-day plan at $6.90, five days at $18.90, ten at $27.90, fifteen at $36.90, twenty at $46.90, thirty at $59.90 and ninety at $99 — and concluded that Holafly was the cheapest unlimited option in Denmark at every duration we could compare. Three of those seven durations do not exist: Holafly sells 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days, here and everywhere. The four that do exist were all underpriced, the month by $14. And the conclusion inverts: on the real numbers Holafly is the most expensive unlimited plan in Denmark at every single length.

We also used to explain a discarded 25-day figure that sat above the 30-day price. That anomaly was a symptom of the same bad dataset, and there is nothing left of it to explain.

No hotspot, and that is not a settings problem

Holafly's Denmark plan does not support hotspot tethering. You cannot share the connection with a laptop, a tablet or a travelling companion's phone.

For a lot of people that single line settles the question. Unlimited data you cannot share is a phone plan, not a trip plan. If you are working from cafés, or one person in a pair is buying for both, look at a capped plan from a provider whose terms permit tethering — and confirm that in the terms rather than assuming it.

Calls and SMS are not included either. Voice runs over WhatsApp and similar apps, which in Denmark is unremarkable.

Unlimited versus just buying enough gigabytes

First, unlimited against unlimited. Airalo's Danish ladder was read off its own site, Nomad's off its own:

Nomad is the cheapest uncapped option at every length it sells — 90 cents under Holafly at three days, and $2.50 to $3.50 under it from five days up. Airalo is cheaper than Holafly at all six. Holafly is last in every row.

The comparison against capped data is worse. A month of Holafly is $73.90. Airalo's verified 50GB is $35 and Nomad's verified 50GB is $45. Fifty gigabytes over thirty days is 1.7GB a day — more than most travellers manage without downloading films.

Drop your appetite to normal levels and the gap becomes absurd: Airalo's verified 5GB for 30 days is $11, a seventh of Holafly's month, and Saily's 5GB month is $10.99.

So the case for Holafly in Denmark, which this page used to state as a price case, is not one. What is left is preference: you want uncapped data, you do not need to tether, and you would rather buy it from Holafly than from the two providers selling the same thing for less.

The network claim

Holafly lists no Danish host networks. Its own pages name no carrier — for Denmark or for any of the countries we read — and the TDC, Telia and Telenor trio this page used to show came from our own older data rather than from Holafly.

It is worth noting because this page once treated network disclosure as a differentiator. Saily, Airalo, Nomad and Holafly name no Danish network whatsoever. There is no disclosure here to pay a premium for.

Verdict

We would not buy Holafly for Denmark. Nomad sells the same uncapped product for less at every length up to ten days, by 90 cents at three days and $2.50 to $3.50 above that, Airalo is cheaper at all six and covers the fortnight and the month, and if 5GB would have done then $11 buys it with a month's validity against Holafly's $73.90.

Two more things to weigh. A local prepaid SIM runs about $13 at the airport, but Denmark requires a passport or ID for registration, so it is a staffed-counter purchase. And if you are on an EU or EEA plan already, roam-like-at-home covers you here at domestic rates — check your allowance before buying anything. Long-stay buyers should also note that the Faroe Islands sit on a separate network and should not be assumed included.
