3 Denmark SIM card: eSIM and SIM for visitors, and what we could not find
We found no prepaid or tourist product on the 3 pages we could read. Its eSIM page describes a free eSIM for subscription customers.
Is a 3 Denmark SIM card a realistic choice for a visitor?
Probably not, on what 3 publishes. We looked for a 3 Denmark SIM card aimed at tourists, a prepaid card (kontantkort) or any visitor offer, and the pages we could open describe subscriptions. That is a statement about what we found on 8 October 2026, not proof that no prepaid product exists. 3's own site is the place to check.
What does 3 say about eSIM?
3's eSIM page says an eSIM is free, and that both existing and new customers can have one. Existing customers order it in the Mit 3 self-service under their subscription, while new customers pick eSIM when buying a subscription. Activation is quoted at about 30 minutes for a new number, or about 10 minutes for an extra eSIM on an existing subscription.
The practical requirements on the page: the phone must support eSIM (dialling *#06# should show an EID number), it must be on Wi-Fi to download the profile, and a QR code can only be scanned once. The page does not mention MitID or a Danish CPR number, and it does not mention prepaid or visitors. Because the route is a subscription, a 3 Denmark eSIM is a product for people who live in Denmark, and the page does not say otherwise.
Can a visitor buy a 3 Denmark SIM in a shop?
We could not read a 3 page that answers this. A search listing for 3's help page about ordering a SIM shows that a new SIM card is ordered through Mit 3, 3Butik or customer service, but we did not read that page in full and do not rely on it here. 3's prepaid status, ID rules and any airport sales point are not stated on the pages we read.
What does 3 say about coverage and 3 Denmark 5G?
The eSIM page makes no network, 4G or 5G claim, so we cannot report 3's coverage from its own site. Our network notes for Denmark describe country-wide 4G and 5G coverage in general terms, not per carrier, and we have not confirmed a 3-specific figure. Check 3's coverage map before buying anything.
What should a visitor do instead?
If you are in Denmark for days or weeks and want data on arrival, the least risky path is a travel eSIM installed before you fly, since none of the Danish carrier pages we read offers a visitor product we could verify. The other three networks are on the TDC / YouSee, Telenor Denmark and Telia Denmark pages. Our Denmark SIM card comparison lays out the practical options, where to buy a SIM card in Denmark covers the shops, and the Denmark hub has the rest. Travel eSIM prices are on the cheapest eSIM page.
Common questions
Does a 3 Denmark SIM card come as prepaid or a tourist SIM?
We found none on the 3 pages we could read on 8 October 2026. The eSIM page we read covers subscription customers and does not mention prepaid or visitors. That is not proof none exists, so check 3 directly. A travel eSIM is the verified alternative for short stays.
Is a 3 Denmark eSIM free?
3's eSIM page says it is free for both existing and new customers. It is tied to a 3 subscription, ordered in Mit 3 or chosen at purchase. The page does not say a visitor without a Danish subscription can get one.
How long does a 3 Denmark eSIM take to activate?
The page quotes about 30 minutes for a new number and about 10 minutes for an additional eSIM on an existing subscription. Your phone must support eSIM and be on Wi-Fi, and the QR code can only be scanned once.
Do I need MitID or a CPR number for a 3 Denmark eSIM?
The eSIM page does not mention either. It also does not say what a customer must show to open a subscription, so we cannot say what a visitor would need. Ask 3 before relying on it.
What is the best SIM option for a short stay in Denmark?
From what we could verify, a travel eSIM installed before you fly, because the Danish carrier pages we read describe subscriptions, not visitor products. Compare plans on our Denmark SIM card page and the cheapest eSIM page.
