Airalo in Croatia: cheap short unlimited, one unanswered question

Croatia is in the EU. If your phone plan is from an EU or EEA country, roam-like-at-home applies and you already have data here at your domestic rate. A large share of Croatia's summer visitors arrive from Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia and Poland, and for all of them this page is academic. Buy nothing.

The rest of this is for travellers from outside the EEA — the UK since Brexit put an end to guaranteed free roaming, plus the US, Canada, Australia and everywhere else.

What Airalo charges

All of Airalo's Croatia prices in our data are verified, read off its own site on 13 August 2026. Nomad's Croatia rows have since been read off Nomad's own site too, on 17 August 2026. The Saily rows for Croatia were read off Saily's own site on 18 August 2026; only the Holafly rows remain indicative, so treat those comparisons accordingly.

One quick piece of housekeeping: Airalo sells each size at three validity lengths and charges almost nothing for the longer ones. 5GB is $9.50 for seven days and $10.50 for thirty; 10GB is $15.50 and $17.00. Take the 30-day version by default — the extra dollar removes any risk of the plan expiring while your ferry is delayed.

On raw price, Nomad undercuts Airalo across the board, and that is no longer a matter of trusting an unchecked listing: its verified rows are $7.00 for 3GB over 30 days, $9.00 for 5GB, $15.00 for 10GB, $21.00 for 20GB and $31.00 for 50GB. An earlier version of this page treated those figures as indicative and leaned on Airalo's on the grounds that only ours were checked. Both ladders are checked now, and Nomad's is cheaper at every shared size. Saily's 1GB over seven days is $3.99, verified.

Croatia is one place Airalo's unlimited plans work

Airalo's unlimited tier is usually poor value. Here it is not, at least at the short end.

The three-day plan is the outlier. At $9.50 it is $2.50 more than the metered 3GB plan of the same length, and cheaper per day than either the five- or seven-day unlimited. For a weekend in Dubrovnik or Split where you will be navigating, checking ferry times and posting photographs, $2.50 to stop counting is a reasonable trade. The five-day plan at $3.80 a day is the worst of the six and should be skipped — pay $6 more and take the seven-day.

At the long end the metered plans win again. The 30-day unlimited at $59.00 is $24 more than 50GB, which almost nobody will exhaust on a Croatian holiday. For context, Holafly's indicative unlimited prices here are $36.90 for ten days and $68.90 for twenty-five — both above Airalo's verified equivalents, though unverified figures should not settle an argument.

Coverage, islands, and the network nobody names

Airalo does not publish a host network for Croatia, and it publishes none for any country. Neither do Saily or Nomad. Neither does Holafly: the HT, A1 and Telemach trio this page used to carry against it came from our own data rather than from Holafly, which names no carrier for Croatia or for any other country. So no eSIM here lets you choose your operator with any confidence.

What is worth knowing is where Croatian coverage thins out, because it applies whichever network you land on. The gaps are the inland interior — Lika and Gorski Kotar — some of the smaller offshore islands, hiking ground in the Velebit range and the Dinaric Alps above the main paths, and the deeper forest trails at Plitvice Lakes. The coast, the cities and the big islands are fine. If your trip involves island-hopping to the quieter places or a day walking above the marked routes, download offline maps first.

One more Croatian specific: a local SIM here is cheap, around $11 at the airport, but registration requires a passport or ID. That is a real counterweight, since $11 undercuts most of Airalo's ladder. Airalo's advantage is that it needs no paperwork and works before you have left the terminal.

Verdict

For a short trip, Airalo's three-day unlimited plan at $9.50 is the most interesting thing it sells in Croatia. For a week or two of ordinary use, the verified 5GB or 10GB 30-day plans at $10.50 and $17.00 are the sensible middle. Skip the 30-day unlimited.

If a few dollars matter more, Nomad's verified rows on the Croatia hub are lower than Airalo's at every metered size, and a $11 local SIM is lower still if you do not mind showing a passport. Airalo's remaining edge is the short unlimited plans and the 15-day durations Nomad does not sell.
