The least painful counter in Vietnam

Da Nang is a compact airport and the SIM queue reflects it: about 10 minutes at peak, around 3 off-peak. That is the shortest wait we hold for any Vietnamese airport, half of Noi Bai's.

Two carriers appear in arrivals, Viettel and Mobifone. No Vinaphone desk shows in our records, which only matters if you had a specific reason to want that network. Your passport is required, as everywhere in Vietnam — prepaid lines are registered against a document and the desk does the paperwork in front of you. A typical airport SIM runs about $7 in our data; we do not hold what allowance that includes, so it is the price of a working Vietnamese number rather than a package you can price per gigabyte.

We hold nothing finer than that. Not which hall the desks stand in, not what time they open, not whether both carriers are staffed at once. This is a short page because Da Nang is a straightforward airport, and padding it out with generic advice would not make it more useful.

The 22:00 close is the whole decision

The counter shuts at 22:00. That is the one fact on this page worth acting on, because the queue certainly is not.

If you land before then and want plastic in your hand, Da Nang is a perfectly reasonable place to buy: ten minutes, two networks, done. If you land after, there is no counter, and you will be finding a phone shop in the city the next day. Free wi-fi is generally available in the terminal, enough to book a car, but you will leave without a Vietnamese number.

An eSIM sidesteps the timing question entirely. Installed before you fly, it comes up when the aircraft doors open, whatever the hour. That is the only advantage it holds here — at Da Nang it is not saving you from a long queue, because there isn't one.

What each route costs

A gigabyte at the bottom of that ladder costs a third of what it costs at the top, so check the large plans before settling for a small one. Nomad's 50 GB at $39 is cheaper still per gigabyte, at $0.78, and that row was read from Nomad's own site on 17 August 2026 rather than being the indicative figure this page previously carried.

Coverage is not really a live question on the central coast. Da Nang and Hoi An are well served by all the Vietnamese networks, and the argument about which carrier reaches furthest belongs to the northern highlands and the islands, not here. Which is fortunate, because the host network behind a travel eSIM is not something a buyer can verify: Airalo, Saily and Nomad publish none for Vietnam at all, Holafly publishes none either, and the Mobifone name our data carried against eSIMCard's rows came from our own text. Nothing on sale here names Viettel.
