Mobifone Vietnam SIM card: eSIM fees, passport use and roaming packs

Mobifone's eSIM page lists a 100,000 dong fee for a new prepaid eSIM and accepts a passport as ID. No tourist SIM is listed.

Is a Mobifone Vietnam SIM card a good choice for a visitor?

It is a possible choice, mainly if you want an eSIM and are happy to visit a store with your passport. Mobifone's pages list no tourist SIM, but its eSIM page states the fees and the process clearly. The things it leaves out are whether foreign nationals are eligible for the app route, and any coverage figures.

What does Mobifone's eSIM page say?

We read the eSIM page at mobifone.vn/esim on 8 October 2026 (it is in Vietnamese; we translated).

Who
all Mobifone subscriber types, including prepaid. Business subscribers must visit a store
Fees
changing or replacing an eSIM costs 25,000 dong; a new prepaid subscriber pays 100,000 dong (25,000 for the eSIM plus 75,000 activation)
Documents
your original national ID or passport. In the app you upload a photo of one of them
Process
in a store, staff switch you and scan the QR code. Via the My MobiFone app, you submit a change request, upload your document, verify your identity, enter an OTP and activate the eSIM
Limits
app activation codes last 30 minutes (then the code is revoked and 50,000 dong refunded), a printed QR left unscanned is revoked after 24 hours, and each QR works on one device only

The page does not say whether foreign nationals can use the app route. It only says a passport can be used, so confirm with Mobifone (hotline 1800 1090).

Does Mobifone sell a tourist SIM?

Not on the pages we read. The homepage links a registration portal for new SIMs and subscriber types, but no visitor pack. Its international packs, such as RH at 100,000 dong for 1 GB over 3 days, are roaming packages for Mobifone customers travelling abroad, not for tourists in Vietnam.

Coverage

The homepage makes no coverage claim and links a 5G promotional page we did not verify. Our network notes call Mobifone's 4G strong, an unverified lead.

Mobifone compared with a travel eSIM

A Mobifone eSIM costs 100,000 dong before any data pack, and needs a document check. A travel eSIM is bought before you fly. See our Vietnam SIM card comparison and cheapest eSIM page. Other carriers: Viettel, Vietnamobile and Vinaphone. Back to the Vietnam hub.

Bottom line

Our verdict on the Mobifone Vietnam SIM card is that the Mobifone eSIM is clearly priced, but there is no Mobifone tourist SIM on the pages we read, and Mobifone coverage is not quantified.

Can I use a passport for a Mobifone SIM?

Mobifone's eSIM page says you need your original national ID or passport, and in the app you upload a photo of it. It does not say whether foreign nationals can use the app route, so confirm with Mobifone at 1800 1090 or in a store.

Does Mobifone sell a tourist SIM?

We found no tourist SIM on the Mobifone pages we read. Its international packs, such as RH at 100,000 dong for 1 GB over 3 days, are roaming packages for customers travelling abroad. Check a store or compare Viettel and Vietnamobile, which describe tourist SIMs.

Is Mobifone coverage good in Vietnam?

Mobifone's pages we read make no coverage claim, so we cannot confirm it from the carrier. Our network notes call its 4G strong but that is unverified. Check Mobifone's coverage tools for your route before relying on it. Check the carrier's own page before you buy.
