Viettel Vietnam SIM card: the tourist eSIM and how to register it
Viettel's own tourist eSIM guide lists 30-day plans at 150,000 and 180,000 dong, sold at airport kiosks, with passport registration.
Is a Viettel Vietnam SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
For most visitors, yes, it is the local option we would look at first, because Viettel publishes an English guide to a tourist eSIM, names the airport kiosks and lists package prices. The caveat is that the guide is dated 20 November 2025 and its news listings show dates in 2026, so prices may have changed. The registration needs your original passport, and your phone must be carrier-unlocked.
What does Viettel sell to tourists?
We read Viettel's tourist eSIM guide (shop.viettel.vn) and its tourist purchase page on 8 October 2026. The guide lists two 30-day packages, with prices that exclude the SIM itself.
- 5G150T: 150,000 VND, 5 GB per day, data only.
- 5G180H: 180,000 VND, 5 GB per day, with 30 minutes of on-net calls and 15 minutes off-net.
The guide also names SD135T and T160 but gives no prices. Check current prices at the kiosk or on Viettel's tourist site.
Where do you buy it?
The guide lists airport kiosks in the international arrival hall at Noi Bai Terminal 2, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, plus kiosks at Cam Ranh/Nha Trang and Phu Quoc, and official Viettel stores or authorised points of sale in cities. It accepts cash in dong, Visa and Mastercard, QR wallets and bank transfer. Viettel's tourist purchase page also has an online form that asks for a passport photo and a portrait.
How does registration work?
The guide gives five steps: scan the QR on the SIM packaging, photograph your original passport and take a live selfie (uploads are not accepted), check the extracted details and enter an email for the eSIM profile, accept the privacy terms, and sign the contract on screen. Digital copies of a passport are not valid. You may also need your hotel name and address. You need Wi-Fi to scan the setup QR code. The tourist purchase page we read describes a slightly different upload process, so expect the kiosk staff to guide you.
What does Viettel say about coverage?
The pages we read make no coverage claim. Our own network notes describe Viettel as having the widest rural coverage and the biggest 5G footprint, but those notes are an unverified lead and we do not repeat the figures. Check Viettel's coverage tools for Sapa, Ha Giang or Ha Long Bay.
Viettel compared with a travel eSIM
A Viettel eSIM bought at the airport costs about the same order as a travel eSIM but adds a passport registration step in Vietnam. See our Vietnam SIM card comparison and cheapest eSIM page. Other carriers: Vinaphone, Mobifone and Vietnamobile. Back to the Vietnam hub.
Bottom line
Our verdict on the Viettel Vietnam SIM card is that the Viettel tourist eSIM is the best documented local option we read, with a Viettel prepaid price list, though you must check current Viettel coverage and prices.
