Holafly in Morocco: is the unlimited plan worth it?

Six plans, all unlimited, all data-only

Holafly sells one shape of product in Morocco. Unlimited data, no calls, no SMS, in six durations. There is no small starter plan and no cheap 1GB option — if you want a capped plan you are buying from somebody else. WhatsApp and the other messaging apps work over data, which is how most travellers use a phone in Morocco anyway.

A correction. The table on this page used to read $11.70, $19.50, $27.30, $36.90, $50.90 and $74.90, and made a point of the first three working out at a flat $3.90 a day. There is no flat rate and every one of those figures was too low — three days is $14.50, not $11.70, and the month is $84.90, not $74.90. They came from our own generated dataset rather than from Holafly. The real per-day rate falls gently at each step, from $4.83 to $2.83, with the only meaningful drop at thirty days.

Morocco is also one of Holafly's dearer markets: $84.90 for a month against the $73.90 it charges across most of Europe.

Against Airalo it wins; against Nomad it does not

Both rivals' Moroccan ladders were read off their own sites.

Holafly is $3 to $5.50 under Airalo at every length the two share, which is a genuine advantage and one of the few places it holds one. But Nomad is cheaper than Holafly at all four, by 50 cents at three days and by $6.90 at ten. Both rivals stop at ten days, so Holafly's 15- and 30-day tiers have no direct competitor in our data at all.

Where Holafly loses badly

Unlimited is the wrong product for most Morocco trips. A week of maps, WhatsApp and the occasional hotel booking is a few gigabytes, not tens.

Nomad's verified 5GB month is $17 and its 10GB month is $21 — the second of those is $10.50 less than a single unlimited week from Holafly, with four times the validity. Airalo's verified 5GB/7-day plan is $20 and its 10GB week is $32. The crossover sits around 10GB for a week: below that, capped wins comfortably.

Saily's 1GB over a week is a verified $8.99 — dearer than Airalo's $6 and Nomad's $7. Even so, the spread is stark: light users can spend under $10, and Holafly's floor is $14.50.

What we do not know: the network

Our data used to carry "Maroc Telecom" against two of Holafly's six Morocco rows and nothing against the other four. That inconsistency was the giveaway: reading Holafly's own pages showed it names no carrier for Morocco, or for any of the countries we checked, so the entry came from our records rather than from the seller. Do not pick this eSIM because you believe it lands on a particular mast — nobody will tell you which one it lands on. Airalo and Nomad do not publish host networks for any country either, so there is nothing to compare it against.

That matters more in Morocco than in most places, because the coverage gaps are real and geographic: the deep Sahara on the Merzouga camel routes, remote High Atlas passes such as Tizi n'Test, the upper sections of the Dades Gorge, and the far south around Dakhla. No eSIM reaches a mast that is not there. If connectivity in those places is genuinely important to you, that is an argument for a satellite messenger, not a different provider.

Verdict

Holafly has a real place in Morocco, which is more than we can say for it in most countries: the 15-day plan at $57.90 and the 30-day at $84.90 are the only uncapped options in our data at those lengths, and against Airalo it wins every shorter window too.

But if your trip is ten days or less, buy Nomad — its uncapped plans are cheaper than Holafly's at all four lengths, and by $6.90 at ten days. And if you are a normal traveller, skip unlimited entirely: Nomad's verified 20GB month is $25, less than Holafly's seven-day plan with four times the window.

On tethering, our older text said hotspot use was supported across Holafly's Moroccan plans. We hold nothing verified on that and Holafly blocks tethering in many countries, so read the plan's terms before buying if you need to share the connection.

One practical point in Holafly's favour: no ID is required to buy an eSIM. A local Maroc Telecom, Orange Morocco or Inwi SIM runs about $12 at the airport but needs your passport for registration, which means a counter, a queue and a form.
