Nomad in Italy: checked prices that undercut almost everything

Nomad's Italy range has been read off nomadesim.com. Here it is against the cheapest checked price at each size.

Every figure in that table is verified — Nomad's on 17 August 2026, Airalo's on 13 August and Saily's on 16 August.

That table is the review, and it is the reverse of the one this page carried before. An earlier version had Nomad's ladder running from $4.50 to $28 and concluded that a checked price matched or beat it at every size. Those Nomad numbers were our own estimates and every one of them was too high. Corrected, Nomad loses the single gigabyte by a cent and wins everything above it, ties at 50 GB, and does it on prices that are now as certain as its rivals'.

The margins are not large — a dollar here, two dollars there, $1.99 at 3 GB — but they are consistent, and consistency across a whole range says more than one outlier.

Hotspot is supported across the range. Calls and SMS are not included on any plan.

The range is broader than we said

Five capped sizes was the old count. It is six, from 1 GB to 50 GB, and there is unlimited on top: $11 for three days, $18 for five, $25 for a week and $33 for ten days. This page previously said Nomad sold no unlimited plan for Italy. It does.

That puts it level with Airalo on breadth rather than behind it. Airalo's verified Italy range runs from $4 for 1 GB to $35 for 50 GB with three-day blocks on top, and Nomad has no validity shorter than seven days — which remains the one structural gap. For a long weekend in Rome, Airalo's three-day plans fit a trip that Nomad's week does not.

Nobody publishes a network here, Nomad included

An earlier version of this page said Nomad was one of only two providers in our Italy data to name a host network, and pointed at two Italian operators. That was wrong. The operator names came from our own generated data, not from Nomad, and verifying Nomad's prices is what exposed them.

Nomad publishes no host carrier for Italy, and none for any of the 47 countries whose prices we have now read off its site. Airalo, Saily and Holafly publish none either. The Italian carriers once shown against Holafly's rows came from our own data rather than from Holafly, whose country pages name no operator — and Holafly has no verified prices anywhere in our data either.

So there is no network argument for or against Nomad in Italy. There is no network argument for anything sold as a travel eSIM here. If the carrier genuinely matters to your trip, the only purchase that settles it is an Italian prepaid SIM bought in Italy.

What is not in dispute is where Italian coverage fails regardless of provider: the Amalfi Coast tunnels and cliff-side villages, the Cinque Terre trail between villages, remote Dolomite hiking routes, the interior of Calabria and Basilicata, and the smaller Sicilian islands. If your trip is Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan, network choice is close to irrelevant anyway.

Should you be buying at all?

If your phone plan is from an EU or EEA country, no. Roam-like-at-home already gives you your domestic allowance in Italy at domestic rates.

From outside the bloc, the local option is an Italian prepaid SIM at roughly $18 from an airport counter, and Italy requires a passport or ID document to register one. Nomad's 5 GB month at $11 is well under that and involves no desk, no document and no queue — which is the honest case for any eSIM here, and Nomad now makes it more cheaply than its rivals.

Verdict

Nomad is the price pick in Italy. It undercuts Airalo at 5, 10 and 20 GB, undercuts Saily by nearly two dollars at 3 GB, matches Airalo's 50 GB month at $35, and its figures have been checked rather than estimated.

Buy something else only for a stay shorter than a week, where Airalo's three-day blocks fit better, or for a single gigabyte, where Saily is a cent cheaper. The full Italian comparison, including which prices are verified, is on the Italy hub.
