WindTre Italy SIM card: the Tourist Pass offers explained
WindTre sells Tourist Pass SIMs and eSIMs for foreign visitors. What the page says on price, EU data and 5G, and what it omits.
Is a WindTre Italy SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
It is one of the most visitor-friendly options we found, because WindTre has a page of Tourist Pass offers written for foreign visitors, and they can be bought online as an eSIM. A WindTre Italy SIM card for tourists also comes with a 5G claim: WindTre says its 5G covers 97.10 percent of the Italian population, which is its own figure. We read WindTre's English tourist page on 8 October 2026; this is desk research, not a test. The Italy hub covers the other networks.
What are the WindTre Tourist Pass offers?
The page we read showed two passes. Tourist Pass Digital is €25 for one month and Tourist Pass XXL is €50 for six months. Both include unlimited minutes to Italy and 100 minutes to 53 countries. The EU data allowance is 23 GB on Digital and 15 GB on XXL. The page says "Only online Activation and SIM included," so no separate SIM fee is listed for those passes.
One thing does not add up: image file names refer to 200 GB packages, while the card text states the EU figures above and does not give a total Italian data figure we could rely on. Check the headline data on WindTre's tourist page before you buy.
How do you get a WindTre tourist SIM or eSIM?
WindTre says you can buy online and receive an eSIM, or buy at a WindTre store on arrival for a physical SIM or help activating an eSIM. The SIM is deactivated automatically when the validity ends. The page also lists a WhatsApp number for assistance for customers born abroad.
What ID does WindTre need?
The page does not state ID requirements, and we did not find them elsewhere. Confirm when you buy.
WindTre coverage and fair use
WindTre says a 5G-compatible phone and WindTre 5G coverage are needed for 5G, and that included EU data can be used in other EU countries with no extra roaming cost. "Unlimited" is subject to conditions: WindTre may temporarily reduce speed where usage affects the network and may suspend or change a plan for improper use. Outside the EU, usage is not included according to the page.
WindTre against a travel eSIM
A travel eSIM is bought before you fly with no Italian registration. A WindTre Tourist Pass gives you a local number and Italian minutes, which travel eSIMs often do not. See our Italy SIM card comparison and cheapest eSIM page. Other Italian networks: TIM, Vodafone Italy, Iliad Italy and Fastweb Mobile.
