eSIMCard in Hungary: no price we can stand behind

Nothing in our data is an eSIMCard plan

Hungary is a country where our price checking has been thorough on some providers and non-existent on others. Airalo's Hungarian catalogue was read off its own site on 13 August 2026 — eighteen rows, prices and all. eSIMCard's was not read at all. There is no eSIMCard row in the dataset, cheap or expensive.

So this page will not quote you an eSIMCard price for Hungary. An older version did, and that figure came from generated text nobody had checked against the store. The only number worth trusting is the one on eSIMCard's own product page on the day you buy.

One detail from the old listing is worth keeping: it recorded that eSIMCard's Hungary product supports hotspot tethering, which matters if you are feeding a laptop or a travelling companion's phone. One detail is not worth keeping: it named a Hungarian host network. We hold no host network for eSIMCard here. Nobody has read one for Hungary, and any page stating which carrier eSIMCard roams onto here is guessing.

Why we hold no eSIMCard price anywhere now

This blank used to be specific to Hungary. It no longer is. We carried 78 eSIMCard rows across 31 countries; on 18 August 2026 we read eSIMCard's own pages and found them wrong, and every one of those rows has been withdrawn from the tables and from the cheapest-per-gigabyte ranking.

We could not replace them with the right figures either. eSIMCard prices the same size over the same duration at two or three different amounts, depending on a Standard/Universal toggle, a per-plan speed limit hidden inside each plan's details modal, and carrier sets that vary plan by plan. Our records hold only provider, size, days and price, so any single figure we stored would flatten a throttled plan and a full-speed one into one row. Our eSIMCard page sets out the reasoning.

None of that is a verdict on the shop. eSIMCard has a working checkout, a catalogue far wider than our rows ever showed, and it is the only one of the six sellers here that publishes the host network its plans use — its Japan page names three Japanese operators, where Airalo, Nomad, Saily and Holafly name none anywhere. What we have no read of is its Hungary listing, which is why this page still prices the market instead.

The prices eSIMCard has to beat

Read the right-hand column before you read the prices. The Airalo and Nomad rows were verified at source, Airalo's on 13 August 2026 and Nomad's on 17 August 2026. The Saily rows were read off Saily's own site on 18 August 2026.

Two numbers frame the decision. At the small end, Hungary's floor is around $4: Saily's verified $3.99 for 1GB over seven days, Airalo's verified $4.00 for 1GB over three. At the volume end, Airalo's verified 50GB month works out at 72 cents a gigabyte. If eSIMCard cannot get close to 72 cents on a long stay or $4 on a short one, it has no case here, because hotspot support is standard across this market rather than a reason to choose anyone.

One naming point. Airalo sells its Hungarian packages under the label "Szia!" at checkout. That is Airalo's own product tier, not a network.

If what you want is unlimited data

Then the comparison is against Holafly, whose Hungary plans are unlimited-only and, on verified figures, cost $20.50 for five days and $36.50 for ten. Holafly sells six windows and no others — 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days. Airalo's verified unlimited plans sit alongside them at $18.50 for five days, $34.50 for ten, $48 for fifteen and $69 for thirty. On those numbers Airalo's month costs ten cents more than Holafly's twenty-five days. Whatever eSIMCard charges, that is the pair of price points it lands between.

Coverage is a Hungarian problem, not a provider one

Travel eSIMs in Hungary roam onto the same small set of national networks, so the known weak spots hit all of them alike: the remote Zemplén Mountains in the north-east, dead spots along the southern shore of Lake Balaton, and deep sections of the Aggtelek caves. In Budapest, along the motorways and around the main Balaton resorts, the practical difference between one provider and another is close to nothing.

The local SIM, and whether you need any of this

A prepaid SIM from Magyar Telekom, Yettel Hungary or Vodafone Hungary runs about $8 at the airport, and Hungary asks for no ID to buy one — you can walk up and walk out with it working. That undercuts most of the eSIM rows above and involves no paperwork at all, which is unusual in Europe.

Before any of that, check your home plan. If it is from an EU or EEA country, roam-like-at-home rules mean your normal allowance generally works in Hungary at domestic rates and buying anything is wasted money. Verdict

We cannot recommend eSIMCard for Hungary, and we cannot warn you off it either. We have no price for it, no host network, and nothing specific to its Hungarian coverage. What we can give you is the bar it has to clear: $0.72 per GB on a verified 50GB month, $1.90 per GB at 10GB, and an $8 local SIM that needs no documents. Price eSIMCard against those three and the answer will be plain enough.
