A Magyar Telekom Hungary SIM card for a visitor means the Travel SIM, a data-only product with no calls or SMS. Telekom's English page for visitors lists two versions, sells them at an airport shop and says the eSIM version must be bought in a store. For a pure data trip that is convenient. For a local number it is not the right product.

This is desk research from Magyar Telekom's public pages, read on 8 October 2026. We have not tested the service.

Telekom says 5G works wherever it is available in Hungary and with certain EU roaming partners, and that you need a 5G-capable device, a 4G-capable SIM and 4G/5G enabled in settings. It gives estimated maximum speeds of 475 Mbit/s down and 75 Mbit/s up, as estimates, not guarantees. It lists no coverage percentages, so claims that it has the widest footprint are not confirmed here.
