Holafly in Hungary: unlimited data at a price Airalo beats

Six plans, all unlimited, none of them cheap

Holafly does one thing in Hungary: unlimited data, sold by the day. These prices were read off Holafly's own site on 18 August 2026.

A correction. This page previously held three Hungarian rows — five days at $19, ten at $36.90 and twenty-five at $68.90 — and built a comparison around that 25-day plan buying five fewer days than Airalo's month for ten cents less. There is no 25-day plan. Holafly sells 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days, here and everywhere, and the two prices we gave for real durations were both too low.

The pattern is the familiar one: the daily rate mostly falls as the trip lengthens, from $3.97 to $2.46, with five days the odd rung that costs more per day than three. What it never does is fall far enough to make the arithmetic comfortable.

Airalo's and Nomad's verified unlimited plans undercut it at every length

This is the awkward comparison for Holafly in Hungary, and it is awkward because the rival numbers are the checked ones.

Forty cents at three days is noise. At five days it is $2.50 against Nomad, at ten $3.50, and at a month Airalo saves you $4.90. Airalo's Hungarian plans are sold under the name "Szia!" at checkout — that is its own product tier, not a carrier.

Set unlimited aside and the gap widens further. Airalo's verified 50GB over 30 days costs $36 — under half Holafly's month, for more data than most travellers use. Nomad's verified 20GB month is $20 and Saily's 3GB month is $7.99. Unless you genuinely burn through tens of gigabytes, a capped plan in Hungary is the cheaper way to stop worrying about data.

The two restrictions to check before buying

The listing we hold records no hotspot tethering on Holafly's Hungary plan. If you need to share the connection with a laptop, a tablet or another person, that is disqualifying. Read Holafly's own terms at checkout, because this is the sort of policy providers change, and check the terms of whatever you buy instead rather than assuming tethering is allowed.

Calls and SMS are not included either. Data-only is normal for travel eSIMs, and WhatsApp, Signal and the rest work fine over data — but if a Hungarian restaurant or a car hire desk needs to ring you back on a local number, no travel eSIM here gives you one.

Which network it uses

Holafly's own listing for Hungary points to no carrier at all. The Magyar Telekom, Vodafone Hungary and Yettel trio this page used to show came from our own older data rather than from Holafly, which publishes no host network here or in any country, so the network cannot be a reason to buy. What is not in dispute is that all Hungarian travel eSIMs land on that same short list of national networks, so the country's known weak spots apply whoever you buy from: the remote Zemplén Mountains in the north-east, dead spots along the southern shore of Lake Balaton, and deep parts of the Aggtelek cave system. Unlimited data does not help you where there is no signal.

The cheaper routes

A prepaid SIM from Magyar Telekom, Yettel or Vodafone Hungary costs around $8 at the airport, and Hungary requires no ID for the purchase — you buy it and it works. For a week in Budapest that is a fraction of Holafly's five-day plan.

If your home plan is from an EU or EEA country, you probably need none of this: roam-like-at-home means your usual allowance normally works in Hungary at domestic rates. Verdict

Holafly is hard to justify in Hungary. Its selling point is not having to think about data, and both Airalo's and Nomad's verified unlimited plans deliver the same thing for less at every one of the six lengths — without the hotspot restriction the Holafly listing carries. Buy Holafly only if you have used it before, like the app and want the same product across a multi-country trip. For Hungary alone, the money is better spent elsewhere.
