eSIMCard in Finland: an empty row in our data, and the ladder it would join

Where eSIMCard is, and where it isn't

We used to hold eSIMCard plans for 31 of the 94 countries we track; all of those rows have since been withdrawn. Finland is one of the 63 we don't, and 23 of those gaps are European — Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, Croatia and Finland among them. Most of the rest are markets added on 17 August 2026, where Airalo is the only seller we hold at all. eSIMCard is well represented in our data across France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the UK and Iceland, and absent from the rest of the Nordics and from most of central and eastern Europe.

Whether that was eSIMCard's own footprint or a hole in our collection, we can't say. What we can say is that we have no Finnish price from it, so this page will not print one.

Why we hold no eSIMCard price anywhere now

This blank used to be specific to Finland. It no longer is. We carried 78 eSIMCard rows across 31 countries; on 18 August 2026 we read eSIMCard's own pages and found them wrong, and every one of those rows has been withdrawn from the tables and from the cheapest-per-gigabyte ranking.

We could not replace them with the right figures either. eSIMCard prices the same size over the same duration at two or three different amounts, depending on a Standard/Universal toggle, a per-plan speed limit hidden inside each plan's details modal, and carrier sets that vary plan by plan. Our records hold only provider, size, days and price, so any single figure we stored would flatten a throttled plan and a full-speed one into one row. Our eSIMCard page sets out the reasoning.

None of that is a verdict on the shop. eSIMCard has a working checkout, a catalogue far wider than our rows ever showed, and it is the only one of the six sellers here that publishes the host network its plans use — its Japan page names three Japanese operators, where Airalo, Nomad, Saily and Holafly name none anywhere. What we have no read of is its Finland listing, which is why this page still prices the market instead.

What the old version of this page claimed

Unusually, it never quoted a price — it told you to check eSIMCard's product page, which at least was honest. What it did assert was a host network: Elisa and DNA. That came out of generated prose, not from eSIMCard, and we have removed it. Finland has three mobile networks, no provider in our Finland data lets you choose between them, and inferring a reseller's host carrier from the country's biggest operator is guesswork dressed as research.

It also said hotspot tethering was supported. That one is plausible for a data-only travel eSIM, but we have not confirmed it for Finland and it is worth checking at checkout rather than at the hotel desk. Tethering policy varies sharply by brand: Holafly's Finland plans, for one, were listed without it.

The ladder any Finland plan has to join

The most useful way to judge an unfamiliar quote is per gigabyte at a month's validity, because that is where nearly every Finland plan sits. Airalo's prices below were read from its own site on 13 August 2026. Saily's are indicative — held in our data without a recent check.

The spread is the story. A gigabyte in Finland costs anywhere from $3.00 to 72 cents depending on how much of it you buy at once — a factor of four, on plans sold by the same two companies in the same country. The cheapest single price on the market, Saily's indicative $3.99 for 1GB over a week, is also the worst value per gigabyte of anything here.

The other thing the table shows is that Airalo is cheaper than Saily at 5GB and 10GB, the two sizes where they compete directly, and by a real margin at 10GB — $15.50 against $19.99. That comparison is between a verified price and an indicative one, so it is a lead rather than a verdict, but it is the right way round to be confident about: the number we checked is the lower one.

So an eSIMCard quote around $10 for five gigabytes, or $16 for ten over a month, would be competitive in Finland. Much above that and you are paying a brand premium for a plan whose host network you also don't know.

What matters here besides price

Buying an eSIM for Finland needs no paperwork. A local prepaid SIM costs about $12 at the airport and comes with a Finnish number, but registration requires a passport or national ID — a counter, a form and a queue rather than a QR code scanned on the plane.

Coverage is the constraint no provider prices in. It is strong on the main E-roads and in the tourist towns, and it thins in the Lapland wilderness and fell areas such as Saariselkä and Kevo, on remote lake islands, and in some border wilderness. If your trip runs north in winter, plan for gaps regardless of which brand's QR code is on your phone.
