Saily in Egypt: $8.99 for a gigabyte, and beaten at every size

What Saily actually charges in Egypt

Every figure was read off Saily's own site on 18 August 2026. The two we used to carry were not merely wrong; they were less than half the real price. Our old records claimed Saily charged a flat $3.99 for a gigabyte in almost every country, and Egypt is where that fiction is most expensive: alongside Morocco, it is Saily's dearest market anywhere. The same 1GB week costs $1.99 in Austria and Czechia.

Hotspot tethering is supported. Saily publishes no host network for Egypt, or for anywhere else — an earlier version of this page said it lists Vodafone Egypt and Orange Egypt, and it does not.

A gigabyte is less than it sounds in Egypt. Live navigation between Cairo sites, a group chat full of photos, and a few map downloads will eat it inside a long weekend. At $8.99 it is an expensive week's grace.

Beaten at every size

Nomad is cheaper at all five, by three dollars at 1GB and six at 20GB. Airalo is a cent cheaper at 5GB, 10GB and 20GB — the one-cent pattern that recurs between these two almost everywhere we have checked them.

An earlier version of this page said Saily's entry plan undercut Nomad's verified $6.00 and its 3GB month undercut Nomad's verified $12.00. Both claims rested on the $3.99 and $8.99 we were publishing, and both are the reverse of the truth.

At the very bottom, Airalo's verified $5.50 for a gigabyte over three days undercuts Saily by a third for the same allowance. An eSIMCard row used to sit below both; it was withdrawn after we read eSIMCard's site and found the figure wrong.

Saily also sells unlimited-data plans for Egypt, at lengths from five to thirty days. We hold no price for any of them, so nothing on this page tells you what Saily's unlimited tier costs.

The network underneath

Saily publishes no host network for Egypt. It publishes none anywhere — we hold no operator against a single Saily row in any of the forty-eight countries we cover. Neither do Airalo or Nomad. Only eSIMCard and Holafly name one, and neither claim has been checked with an operator.

Vodafone Egypt has the widest nationwide coverage and the most reliable 4G in tourist areas, including Luxor, Aswan, Sinai and the Red Sea resorts, and it is the network to have on a Nile cruise. None of that is something you can buy deliberately through a travel eSIM: Airalo, Nomad and Saily all decline to say which operator you attach to, so a local SIM is the only way to choose.

Egypt's national average is around 28 Mbps, and coverage falls away outside the Nile corridor and resort strips. Nowhere works in the Western Desert beyond Siwa, along the Luxor–Abu Simbel road stretches, in the Sinai interior mountains, or at Red Sea offshore dive sites. Carry offline maps for those.

When Saily is still worth buying

Really only one case: you already use Saily elsewhere and want one app, one payment method and one set of installed profiles. That is worth a few dollars to some people, and Saily's Egyptian plans are within a dollar of Airalo's at three sizes.

What should push you elsewhere is almost everything else. Nomad is cheaper at every size and its 10GB month at $28 is six dollars under both rivals. For a long, heavy trip the roughly $8 local tourist SIM bought at Cairo or Hurghada is competitive — passport required, and around 20 minutes of queueing at Cairo.

Verdict

Egypt is an expensive market for travel data and Saily is the most expensive seller in it at every size. Its 1GB week costs $8.99 against Nomad's $6 and Airalo's $5.50, and its monthly plans are a cent above Airalo's and several dollars above Nomad's.
