Vodafone Egypt SIM card: the Tourist Line, eSIM and what to expect
Vodafone Egypt is the only Egyptian carrier we found with a SIM made for visitors, sold at its airport stores. Prices are not published on the page.
Is a Vodafone Egypt SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
For a visitor who wants a local number, a Vodafone Egypt SIM card is the most straightforward choice among the four Egyptian operators, because Vodafone has a line meant for tourists: the Vodafone Tourist Line, or TourSIM. Its page says the line is for tourists visiting Egypt only. Our Egypt notes rate Vodafone the strongest for coverage, but that is an unverified lead; Vodafone's own pages we read make no coverage claim.
What is the Vodafone Egypt tourist SIM?
The Tourist Line page (read 8 October 2026) says the TourSIM comes with bundles for data, international minutes and local minutes, and is sold at Vodafone airport stores and at Vodafone retail stores across Egypt. You manage it by dialling *6060#, which checks balance and lets you buy bundles again.
What the page does not give is the useful part. It lists no bundle sizes, no bundle prices and no validity. The only prices on it are out-of-bundle rates of EGP 0.19 per local minute or text and EGP 0.19 per megabyte. That second rate matters: data outside a bundle is expensive, so buy a bundle straight away. It also does not say which documents the shop will ask for.
Do you need a passport for Vodafone prepaid?
Vodafone's separate required-documents page lists prepaid lines as needing a valid passport plus proof of residence or an entry category such as an e-visa. It is written for lines in general, not the TourSIM specifically, so take your passport and ask at the counter. We read this through a search extract rather than the page itself.
Can a tourist get a Vodafone Egypt eSIM?
Vodafone's eSIM page says the phone must support eSIM, you need Wi-Fi to activate, and the QR code is valid for 5 days only. It prices a swap of an existing physical SIM at EGP 300 and a new line at EGP 350. For converting an existing number it asks that the number be linked to a national ID. The page never mentions tourists or foreign customers, so we cannot say a visitor can buy one. Ask in a store.
Vodafone Egypt coverage and 5G
The Vodafone pages we reached link a network coverage map but state nothing about coverage or 5G themselves; one home-page banner asks whether you are ready for its "new network" and links to 4G readiness. Use the map for your route, such as the Nile, Sinai or the Red Sea.
Vodafone Egypt SIM or a travel eSIM?
A Vodafone SIM gives a local number but means collecting it in person, with your passport, after landing. A travel eSIM can be set up before you leave. We do not name host networks for travel eSIMs, because none but eSIMCard publishes one. See our Egypt SIM card comparison and the cheapest eSIM page. The other operators are Orange Egypt, e& Egypt and WE, and the Egypt hub has the rest.
Common questions
Does Vodafone Egypt have a tourist SIM?
Yes. Vodafone's Tourist Line, called TourSIM, is for tourists visiting Egypt only. It comes with data, international and local minute bundles and is sold at Vodafone airport stores and retail stores across Egypt. The page lists no bundle prices, so check at the counter.
What do I need to buy a Vodafone Egypt SIM card?
Vodafone's required-documents page lists a valid passport plus residency or an entry category such as an e-visa for prepaid lines. It does not say whether the TourSIM has the same rules, so bring your passport and confirm in the store.
Can I buy a Vodafone Egypt eSIM before I arrive?
Vodafone's eSIM page does not mention tourists. It says you need an eSIM phone and Wi-Fi, the QR code is valid for 5 days, and a new line costs EGP 350. Converting a number requires a national ID link, so a visitor should ask a store first.
How much is data on a Vodafone Egypt tourist SIM?
The Tourist Line page gives no bundle prices. It lists out-of-bundle rates of EGP 0.19 per local minute, text and megabyte, which add up quickly, so choose a bundle. Dial *6060# to check balance or buy again.
Is a Vodafone Egypt SIM better than a travel eSIM?
A Vodafone SIM gives a local number but needs an in-person purchase after landing. A travel eSIM can be installed before departure. We cannot say which network any travel eSIM uses unless the provider publishes it.
