Hội An data: a short page, because there is little to say

The honest version

Hội An does not need its own plan. Coverage in the Ancient Town is good, prices are national, and nothing about the town changes which eSIM is worth buying. If you have already sorted out data for Vietnam, you are done — the Vietnam hub has the full comparison and this page will not contradict it.

That said, three things about the town are worth thirty seconds of your attention.

Where the signal is, and is not

In the Ancient Town: good signal on the main walking streets. The UNESCO zone's strict lighting regulations mean the buildings are lit by lanterns at night rather than street lighting, which is the reason the place looks the way it does after dark — and a small practical reason to have working data. Finding a specific restaurant in the narrow lanes is easier with a live map than with a paper one, particularly at night.

Out of town: the remote cycling routes through the rice paddies and the riverside paths are intermittent. This is the only genuine coverage gap here, and it is a mild one — the rides are short, the town is always in one direction, and losing your connection halfway round a paddy loop is an inconvenience rather than a problem. Download the area offline if you are heading out for a full day.

The Full Moon Lantern Festival

On the 14th day of each lunar month the town fills with tourists and lanterns, and the Ancient Town area gets moderate network congestion for the evening.

It is worth knowing for one reason: this is the night everyone wants to send photographs and video home in real time, and it is exactly the night the network is least able to help. If you have people waiting on a live update, warn them, or push the uploads later from your accommodation. No plan, unlimited or otherwise, fixes congestion.

Getting here connected

Hội An has no airport of its own; you arrive through Da Nang, thirty minutes up the road. The SIM counters there carry Viettel and Mobifone, with a peak queue of about ten minutes and three off-peak, and a passport is required to register. The important detail is the closing time: the counter shuts at 22:00. Plenty of flights into Da Nang land later than that, and if yours does, and you were planning to buy on arrival before the drive down, you will be doing the drive offline instead. Airport wifi is free, so an eSIM bought in the terminal is the fallback.

What to buy

Hội An is thirty minutes from Da Nang and normally does its work as part of the central circuit with Huế. Buy one Vietnamese plan for the whole loop rather than thinking about the towns separately.
