Nomad in Thailand: 50 GB for $12, and the correction we owe it

The price we said was too good to be true

Nomad sells 50 GB of Thai data for $12. At 24 cents a gigabyte that is the cheapest rate anywhere on this site, and it is verified — read off Nomad's own site on 17 August 2026.

An earlier version of this page did not believe it. It called that figure the single least reliable number in our Thailand data. It said the 50 GB plan sat below a Nomad 20 GB plan we also had on file, that a ladder which gets cheaper as it gets bigger is a warning sign rather than a bargain, and that we would not plan around it. It told you to open Nomad's site and check whether the plan existed at all.

All of that was our error, and none of it was Nomad's. We had the 50 GB plan recorded as running 30 days. It runs 10. Fifty gigabytes for $12 over a month would indeed have been hard to credit; fifty gigabytes for $12 over ten days is an ordinary short-window bulk deal, and it is exactly what Nomad sells. The 20 GB row we cited as evidence against it does not exist either — Nomad's Thai ladder has no 20 GB tier and never did. The contradiction was in our records.

That earlier version also said Nomad sold no 1 GB, no 3 GB, no 5 GB and nothing shorter than 30 days in Thailand, and ruled it out for short trips on that basis. It sells all of them. Same bad record, same correction.

Where it wins, and where it does not

At 1 GB, Nomad is the dearest thing on the board: $5.00 for a week, against Saily's verified $2.99 for the same week and Airalo's verified $4.00 for three days. There is no argument for buying it.

At 3 GB and 5 GB it is a dead heat. Nomad's 3 GB month is $6.00 and Saily's is $5.99. Nomad's 5 GB month is $8.00, Saily's is $7.99, Airalo's is $8.00. A penny either way should not decide anything.

At 10 GB Nomad edges in front: $10.00 against Saily's $10.99 and Airalo's $11.00. A dollar, on a verified number, which is worth having but is not a reason to change your plans.

The gap only becomes serious in two places. The first is that 50 GB tier, which has no competitor at all — the next cheapest verified 50 GB in Thailand is Airalo's at $27.50, more than twice the price for the same allowance. The second is unlimited, where Nomad runs at roughly two-thirds of Airalo: $16 against $31 for ten days, $21 against $39 for fifteen, $33 against $49 for a month. If you want unlimited data in Thailand and your trip is ten days or longer, Nomad is the cheapest way to buy it.

Below ten days there is nothing to compare: Nomad's unlimited range starts at a 10-day window, so for a three- or five-day unlimited plan Airalo is the only verified option.

The thing to actually watch: the window

The 50 GB plan's virtue and its limitation are the same fact. Ten days is a short lease on a large allowance. It suits a ten-day holiday, a heavy-use fortnight if you buy two, or anyone who genuinely burns through data. It does not suit a slow month in Chiang Mai, and the per-gigabyte rate is irrelevant if the clock runs out with 30 GB unused.

For a month, the plan that fits is Nomad's 10 GB at $10, or Airalo's 50 GB over 30 days at $27.50 if you need the volume. Compare the durations before the prices; in Thailand they are what separate the options.

Practicalities, and the long-stay case

Hotspot tethering is supported, which matters more in Thailand than in most places. Chiang Mai and Bangkok both carry large populations of remote workers on month-long stays, and a 30-day plan that can share to a laptop is a sensible backup for the days when the café or apartment connection gives out. Nomad's unlimited month at $33 is the strongest version of that case in our Thai data.

On coverage there is nothing to weigh. Nomad does not publish which Thai carrier its plans roam onto, and neither does any other provider we track for this country. Thailand's networks are AIS, True Corporation and National Telecom, but which one your eSIM lands on is not something anybody can tell you.

Verdict

For 10 GB and up, and for unlimited, Nomad is the cheapest verified option in Thailand and you should buy it. For 1 GB it is the dearest and you should not. In the middle it is level with Saily and Airalo to within a penny.

The one number to hold in your head is the 50 GB plan's ten-day window, which is the only real catch in the ladder — and which is not, as we previously implied, a sign that the price is fake. The whole field is on the Thailand hub.
