AIS Thailand SIM card: the tourist SIM plans, priced from AIS's own page

AIS sells tourist SIMs from 49 baht for a day to 1,599 baht for 60 days, and an eSIM. Passport registration applies under Thai rules. Here is what AIS states.

An AIS Thailand SIM card is a strong default for a tourist: AIS publishes a clear ladder of tourist plans from one day to 60 days, sells them as a SIM or an eSIM, and calls itself the 5G leader. We read its tourist plan page on 8 October 2026. Whether it beats a travel eSIM depends on trip length and whether you want a Thai number.

Which AIS Thailand SIM card plans can a tourist buy?

AIS's "Sim for Tourist" page lists these plans, with prices as shown that day:

PlanPriceData
1 day49 baht1 GB of 5G/4G, at 10 Mbps, then calls at 1.07 baht a minute
5 days399 bahtunlimited data at maximum speed (5G/4G)
8 days (recommended)499 bahtunlimited, max speed
15 days (best seller)699 bahtunlimited, max speed
30 days1,199 bahtunlimited, max speed
60 days (best value)1,599 bahtunlimited, max speed

The 8, 15, 30 and 60-day plans include free calls within the AIS network, a 100 baht bonus for calls to other networks and international calls via 00300, unlimited AIS Super WiFi and free calls to AIS's 1175 service line. Social apps are data-free on all plans. Check the page for current prices, since they change.

Where do you buy an AIS tourist SIM or eSIM?

AIS says at an AIS shop or AIS partner shop, with a "Find AIS Shop" locator. eSIM purchases go through a "Buy eSIM" link. The page we read does not list airports, so do not assume a counter is open on arrival. Top-ups are available via the myAIS app, AIS's online top-up site, AIS shops or WeChat Pay.

Do you need a passport for an AIS Thailand SIM card?

Thai rules mean yes. AIS's page refers to registering the SIM in line with NBTC regulations, and says tourists who want to keep using the SIM beyond 60 days from activation must reconfirm identity, either by sending the passport number by free SMS to 4444161 and completing a link, or at an AIS shop. A number registered under an individual must be activated within 60 days of registration. We did not read the full step-by-step registration on the page.

AIS Thailand SIM card coverage and 5G

AIS's pages carry the headline "AIS 5G, Thailand's First and Genuine 5G Leader", which is a marketing claim, and link a 5G coverage map. Networks are selected automatically on the strongest signal. We found no population or area coverage figures on the pages we read. Our Thailand network notes say AIS has the largest geographic coverage, best for islands and remote areas; AIS does not state that on the pages we read, so it is an unverified lead. For island hopping, open the map.

AIS or a travel eSIM?

If you want a Thai number, calls and 60-day options, AIS is hard to beat. For a week's trip with no calls, a travel eSIM installed before landing may be simpler and the price may be similar. See the Thailand comparison and the cheapest eSIM page. The other networks: True, which sells Infinite SIMs and registers by passport, and National Telecom (NT). The Thailand hub has the wider guide.

What AIS's pages do not say

The eSIM-specific prices in full (the eSIM page did not load for us), whether airports sell the SIM, or the speed after "maximum speed" fair-use limits. We have not tested the service.
