Seville: ordinary coverage, until Holy Week fills every mast

For most of the year, nothing here is special

Coverage in Seville is good and unremarkable. 4G holds up across the historic centre, the Real Alcázar, the Cathedral and Triana. 5G is thinner than in Madrid or Barcelona, but 4G is fully adequate for maps, tickets and messaging.

If you are coming in October, or February, or any ordinary week, this page has almost nothing to tell you that the Spain hub does not. Pick on price and move on.

The exception is Semana Santa, and it is a real one.

What Holy Week does to the network

Semana Santa is Seville's most intense annual event. Hermandades carry massive floats — pasos — through the city's narrow streets over seven days, watched by hundreds of thousands of spectators lining every route. The city effectively shuts down to normal traffic. Network congestion during peak procession hours, which are the evenings, is extreme.

That is a capacity problem rather than a coverage problem. The masts are where they always were; there are simply far too many phones on them at once, packed into streets narrow enough that a single cell is serving a crowd. Photo uploads queue. Messaging apps lag. Accept it as part of the experience — locals do.

What matters is that no purchase fixes this. You cannot pick a better-connected eSIM out of the congestion, and you cannot pick around it by choosing a host network either, because for most providers we do not hold one. Saily, Airalo, Nomad, eSIM Go and eSIMCard publish no host network for Spain. Holafly's listing points to nothing. This page used to give it Orange, Movistar and Vodafone, which came from our own data; Holafly publishes no host carrier for any country — we read its prices for 28 of them off esim.holafly.com on 18 August 2026 and not one names an operator. It would not have helped anyway in a street where every carrier is saturated at the same moment.

So plan around it instead:

• Download procession routes and schedules offline before the week starts.
• Book restaurants days in advance. The entire city is at capacity.
• Save your accommodation's address and phone number offline, not in a browser tab.
• Agree meeting points in advance rather than expecting to coordinate live.

The Alcázar books out

Advance timed booking is essential for the Real Alcázar, and tickets sell out weeks ahead during the Semana Santa season. Entry needs the digital confirmation, which is the one thing you do not want to be fetching from a loading spinner in a queue. Screenshot it.

What to buy, and what a gigabyte costs

If your phone contract comes from an EU or EEA country, roam-like-at-home already covers you in Spain and you should buy nothing at all. This section is for everyone else.

It is worth looking at the top of that ladder before assuming the small plan is the cheap one. Airalo's 50 GB at $39.00 works out at $0.78 a gigabyte — a shade under a fifth of what the $3.99 starter costs per gigabyte. That is only relevant if you can use the volume, but a month in Andalusia with hotspot use is not a hard 50 GB to spend.

For a four or five-day Semana Santa trip, 5 GB is comfortable. Airalo's 5 GB over 7 days at $8.00 is the verified pick. If you want unlimited so you can stop counting, Airalo lists unlimited over 7 days at $23.50, also verified; Holafly's 7-day unlimited at $29.90 is an indicative listing we have not checked at the provider's own checkout.

A Spanish local SIM runs around $18 at the airport in our data, from Movistar, Vodafone Spain, Orange Spain / MásMóvil, Yoigo or Digi Mobil, and needs a passport or ID to register. For a short Holy Week trip that is worse value than the eSIM, and it involves standing in a shop queue in a week when every queue in Seville is long.
