Holafly in Romania: six unlimited plans, and two rivals that beat them all

Six plans, and nothing else

Holafly's Romanian range is unlimited data or nothing. There is no 1GB option, no 5GB option, no capped plan of any size. These prices were read off Holafly's own site on 18 August 2026.

A correction. This page previously held three Romanian rows — five days at $19, ten at $36.90 and twenty-five at $68.90 — and the number it told you should stop you was that 25-day price sitting ten cents below Airalo's 30-day unlimited. There is no 25-day plan, in Romania or anywhere. Holafly sells 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days, and it now competes with Airalo directly at the month: $73.90 against $69.

No calls or SMS are included on any of them. That is normal for a travel eSIM and rarely a problem, since WhatsApp and the rest run over data.

Both rivals are cheaper at every length

Airalo sells unlimited data in Romania under its Noroc label, and so does Nomad. Both ladders were read at source.

Holafly is last in every row. Nomad is cheapest at the four lengths it sells, by $0.90 to $3.50; Airalo is cheaper than Holafly at all six, by $2.50 at the fortnight and $4.90 at the month.

Where unlimited stops making sense

Unlimited is a premium product in Romania, and the premium is steep. Nomad's verified price for 10GB over thirty days is $16; Airalo's verified price for the same is $18. Holafly's cheapest plan costs $11.90 and expires after three days.

So the break-even is brutal. If you use under about 5GB on a week's trip — maps, messaging, a few videos, hotel wifi at night — a capped plan costs less than half of Holafly's week and lasts four times as long. Unlimited earns its keep when you are tethering all day, streaming on the road, or genuinely cannot predict your usage.

Except that in Romania, Holafly will not let you tether. Hotspot sharing is not supported on its Romanian plans, and the original listing described this as a network-level restriction rather than an app setting. That removes one of the two main reasons to buy unlimited in the first place. If a laptop needs the connection, check the tethering terms on whatever you buy instead.

The network question

Our data used to attribute Orange, Vodafone and Digi to Holafly's Romanian plans. Nobody had read that off a source we trust, and reading Holafly's own pages established where it came from: our records, not the seller, which publishes no host network for Romania or for any of the countries we checked. It was the only mention of Digi in our Romania data, which would have been interesting had it been real.

Airalo and Nomad publish no host network for Romania — or for anywhere else — so on this point nobody in the market is giving you a checkable answer. If which carrier you land on genuinely matters, a physical local SIM is the only way to choose, and that means a passport or ID at the counter and about $13 at the airport. No passport is required to buy an eSIM.

The coverage gaps are the same whichever brand you pick: remote Carpathian trails above roughly 1,600 metres, the Danube Delta's reed channels once you are away from the villages, and very remote settlements in the Moldova region.

Verdict

We cannot find a case for Holafly in Romania. It is dearer than both Nomad and Airalo at every length, including the month it now sells directly against Airalo's, and it is the only provider here that forbids tethering.

If you want unlimited data in Romania, price Nomad first and Airalo second. If you want value, Nomad's capped plans are cheaper per gigabyte than anything unlimited can be, and its 50GB month at $45 is the cheapest bulk data the country sells. The Romania hub has the full side-by-side.
