Vodafone Romania SIM card: Cartela Vodafone prepaid and the EASY eSIM

Vodafone Romania's Cartela is a pay-as-you-go card with 4 or 5 EUR of starting credit. Its EASY service is a separate eSIM line. Prices and ID rules need checking.

A Vodafone Romania SIM card is, for a visitor, either the pay-as-you-go Cartela Vodafone or the app-based EASY service. Vodafone's pages gave us less usable detail than the other Romanian networks, so this page is short. We read them on 8 October 2026. Some of Vodafone's English pages look dated, and we flag where.

Which Vodafone Romania SIM card can a visitor buy?

Cartela Vodafone. Vodafone's English "pay as you go" page for visitors says a new prepaid card includes 4 or 5 EUR of credit, activated after the first call, with roaming enabled by default. Each recharge gives one to five months of validity depending on the amount, followed by a 300-day period in which you can still receive calls. The Romanian Cartela page describes starting credit of 0 or 5 EUR: with 5 EUR a promotional offer applies automatically, and you can decline it by SMS (CREDIT to 579) within 24 hours. Extra options are activated in MyVodafone, or by dialling 100# or 222. The SIM price is not on either page.

Vodafone EASY. The EASY page's headline describes a 100 percent digital service with roaming and eSIM, unlimited 5G data. That page gave us no prices, and we did not read details of who can sign up or whether a Romanian ID is needed. A search summary quoted monthly prices around 2.5 to 9.5 EUR; we have not confirmed them and do not repeat them as fact.

Does a Vodafone prepaid SIM need ID?

The pay-as-you-go page does not mention registration or ID. The EASY page did not say either. Treat both as unknown until Vodafone confirms.

Vodafone Romania SIM card coverage and 5G

The English visitor page claims the best 3G coverage in Romania, reaching about 90 percent of the population. That page seems old, as 3G is not a current selling point, so we would not rely on it. EASY is marketed with unlimited 5G data. We found no current coverage percentages. Our Romania notes say Vodafone is strong in cities and on highways; that is an unverified lead.

Where to buy a Vodafone Romania SIM card

Vodafone's visitor page links a store locator and a list of sales points but names no retailers. The shop page for the Cartela sits in its online shop. The page does not describe a purchase flow.

Vodafone or a travel eSIM?

For a stay of several weeks, a Cartela Vodafone with local credit works. For a short trip, a travel eSIM installed before landing avoids shops and registration questions; see the Romania comparison, the Romania hub and the cheapest eSIM page. Other local networks: Orange Romania, with prices published on its PrePay page, and Digi.

What Vodafone's pages do not say

The SIM price, ID rules, EASY pricing and eligibility, and current coverage. We have not tested the service.
