Orange Romania SIM card: what PrePay includes, what it costs, and the 5G catch
Orange PrePay lists 5 EUR for 250 GB or 6 EUR for unlimited 5G+ data, both for about a month. Orange's page does not say how a visitor registers.
An Orange Romania SIM card is a monthly PrePay option rather than a tourist pack, and Orange's English tools were thin when we read its site on 8 October 2026, so most of this comes from its Romanian PrePay page. It is a reasonable choice for a stay of several weeks. For a few days, the price of being tied to a month-long plan reads as a drawback.
Which Orange Romania SIM card options does PrePay offer?
Orange's PrePay page lists three options, with prices as shown that day:
- 5 EUR credit: 250 GB of national data (100 GB bonus plus 150 GB), unlimited calls and SMS inside Orange's network, 2,000 national and international minutes, 28 days, no roaming. It can be recharged without an account.
- 6 EUR credit: unlimited national data at 5G+ speeds, unlimited in-network calls and SMS, 4,000 national and international minutes, 30 days, no roaming.
- 9 EUR credit (My Orange account needed): unlimited national data, 4,000 minutes, 30 days, plus roaming allowances in Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The SIM itself is bought through a "Cumpara cartela PrePay" page. Its price is not listed on the PrePay page. Orange also lists shops. It does not say whether SIMs are sold there.
Does Orange Romania have an eSIM for visitors?
Orange's PrePay page says eSIM is available to existing customers and to people activating a new PrePay number, but the description is cut off in what we could read. The Orange site also filters phones by eSIM. We found no tourist eSIM and no page saying a visitor can buy one. If you want one, ask Orange on 021 9890 (the number shown on the page, weekdays 09:00 to 18:00).
Does an Orange prepaid SIM need ID?
The PrePay page does not cover registration or ID. We cannot say what a shop will ask a foreign visitor for.
Orange Romania SIM card coverage and 5G
Orange says 5G+ speeds are available to PrePay customers on the 6 EUR option or higher, with a 5G phone, in a 5G area. The 5 EUR option does not mention 5G+. Orange's site has a coverage map at orange.ro/acoperire. Our Romania notes call Orange the widest in 5G and national coverage; Orange's pages do not say so in what we read, and it remains an unverified lead.
Orange or a travel eSIM?
For one week, a travel eSIM that you install before landing is likely to be simpler than collecting a SIM and committing to a 28 or 30-day plan; see the Romania comparison and the cheapest eSIM page. Orange makes more sense for a longer stay, and its no-roaming plans suit a trip kept inside Romania. Other networks: Digi, whose cheapest prepaid is 2.50 EUR a month, and Vodafone Romania. The Romania hub has the wider guide.
What Orange's pages do not say
The SIM price, the ID rule, the eSIM terms for visitors, and coverage numbers. We have not tested the service.

How much is Orange PrePay in Romania?
Orange's PrePay page lists 5 EUR credit for 250 GB over 28 days, 6 EUR for unlimited national data over 30 days, and 9 EUR with roaming allowances for certain Balkan countries. The price of the SIM itself is not on that page.
Does Orange Romania have 5G on prepaid?
Orange says 5G+ speeds are available on PrePay when you activate the 6 EUR option or higher, have a 5G-compatible phone and are in a 5G coverage area. The 5 EUR option does not mention 5G+.
Can a tourist buy an Orange Romania eSIM?
Orange says eSIM is available to existing customers and for a new-number PrePay activation, but we could not read the details. We found nothing that says a visitor can buy one online. Call Orange before relying on it.
Does Orange PrePay work abroad?
The 5 EUR and 6 EUR options are listed as having no roaming. The 9 EUR option includes 1 GB and 50 minutes in Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Turkey, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. EU roaming is not described on the page.
