Airalo's India eSIM: the prices we checked, and the one thing we can't tell you

The prices, and where they came from

Airalo's India catalogue was checked against Airalo's live site on 13 August 2026. Unlike most numbers on comparison sites, including the ones this page used to carry, these were read rather than assumed.

The useful pattern is how little validity costs. 5GB is $13.00 for 7 days, $13.50 for 15 and $14.00 for 30 — a dollar buys you three extra weeks. 10GB moves $22.50 to $24.00 across the same span, and 20GB goes $36.50 for 15 days to $38.00 for 30. There is no reason to buy the short version of any Airalo India plan. Buy the 30-day one and ignore the expiry.

Unlimited is sold separately and priced by the day: $20.50 for 3, $31.50 for 5, $39.50 for 7, $46.00 for 10, $62.00 for 15 and $99.00 for 30. That last figure is worth sitting with. A month of unlimited costs $99; a month of 20GB costs $38. Unless you are streaming video daily, 20GB is not a compromise — it is two and a half times the plan for the money.

The network is not disclosed

Airalo does not publish which Indian network its eSIM attaches to. That is not an omission specific to India — Airalo does not name a host carrier for any country, and our plan data holds nothing for it here. An earlier version of this page named Airtel. Nobody had confirmed that, so it is gone.

Saily does not name one either: its India page offers a connection from the country's best networks and stops there. Nomad and Holafly name none either. eSIMCard is the only one of the six sellers that publishes a host network at all — we read that directly on its Japan page — but the Airtel and Jio pair our own data carried for it here came from this site's generated text rather than from eSIMCard, so we no longer repeat it.

The practical consequence: you cannot buy an Airalo India plan for a particular network's coverage, because you will not know which network you have until the phone attaches on landing.

Where that actually bites

Indian coverage is dense and cheap across the cities and the tourist circuits. Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Mumbai, Goa, Kerala's backwaters, the Rajasthan trunk roads — nothing about the network choice will change your experience.

It changes at altitude and at the edges. Signal thins in rural Rajasthan, across Himachal above roughly 3,000 metres, on the high passes of the Leh–Manali highway, in the remoter Andaman and Nicobar islands, and in parts of the Northeast. If your trip depends on staying connected in any of those, an eSIM whose network nobody will name is a gamble, and a local prepaid SIM bought from a named carrier is the more honest purchase.

Against the competition

Airalo's prices were read on 13 August 2026 and Saily's on 16 August, so the Saily comparisons below are exact. The Holafly figures are indicative — carried over from older data and not read from its own site — so treat those gaps as approximate. eSIMCard's rows have been withdrawn: we read its own pages on 18 August 2026, found the figures we held were wrong, and could not store the real ones. The two middle rows are the ones to read carefully. Saily undercuts Airalo by exactly one cent at 5GB and again at 10GB, which is not a saving — it is two sellers landing on the same price with different rounding. At 20GB Airalo is genuinely the cheaper of the pair, by 99 cents. On unlimited it is the most expensive option by a wide margin — Holafly's listed $74.90 for 30 days against Airalo's $99.00.

What Airalo has instead is the only India pricing on this site that came from the seller. That is worth something when the alternative is a figure that might be a year stale.

Data only, hotspot allowed, no ID

These are data plans. No Indian number, no calls, no SMS — WhatsApp and the messaging apps carry the load, which in India is how most communication happens anyway. Airalo's listing says hotspot tethering works on all its India plans, which puts it ahead of Holafly's unlimited product for anyone with a laptop.

No passport or ID is needed to buy the eSIM. That is a genuine advantage in India, where a local prepaid SIM requires passport and ID at registration. A local SIM runs about $7 at the airport counter, undercutting Airalo's cheapest plan, but the paperwork and the wait are the price of that saving.

Who should buy it

Buy Airalo for India if you want a fixed data allowance, you want to know that the price you are quoted is the price that exists, and you are staying on the well-covered routes. The 5GB and 10GB 30-day plans are the sensible middle of the range.

Skip it if you need unlimited data, where it is comfortably beaten, or if your itinerary runs high into the mountains and you would rather buy coverage from a network you can name. Full provider comparison sits on the India hub.
