Holafly in India: one product, and the arithmetic that decides it

There is only one shape of plan

Holafly does not sell gigabytes in India. Every India plan is unlimited data, and the only choice you make is how many days you want it for. That single decision explains most of what follows, because it means Holafly cannot compete on the thing most travellers actually buy — a small, cheap allowance for maps and messaging.

A correction, and a large one. This page previously listed five plans running from $22.90 for five days to $74.90 for a month, and described them as indicative because Holafly's checkout had blocked the tools we verify with. We have since read the prices in a browser. Every figure was too low: five days is $30.90 rather than $22.90, and the month is $111.90 rather than $74.90 — an understatement of 49%. There is also a three-day plan we did not list, and no plan of any other length: Holafly sells 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days in every country.

India is one of Holafly's most expensive markets. Its $111.90 month is matched only by South Africa and beaten only by Albania, against $73.90 across most of Europe.

How much data you need before it pays

This is the question, and it has a number attached. Airalo's and Nomad's India prices were read off their own sites, so they make a fair benchmark.

Airalo sells 20GB for 30 days at $38 — $1.90 a gigabyte. Holafly's month of unlimited is $111.90. Divide one by the other and Holafly starts winning at about 59GB across the month, or roughly 2GB a day, every day. Measure against Nomad's verified 50GB month at $43 — 86 cents a gigabyte — and the break-even is 130GB, which is not a holiday, it is a home broadband connection.

The week works out similarly. Airalo's verified 10GB for 7 days is $22.50, or $2.25 a gigabyte. Holafly's seven days is $39.50, which needs about 17.5GB to break even — around 2.5GB a day.

For context on what that means: maps, messaging, a few hours of scrolling and the occasional upload will not reach it. Daily video calls home, or streaming in the evenings from a hotel with unreliable wifi, might. India is a country where a lot of travellers do the second thing, but at these prices the bar is high.

Against Airalo's unlimited, and against everyone else

This page used to say Holafly undercut Airalo at every duration by $8.60 to $24.10. On the verified figures it is a near-tie at the short end and a loss at the long one.

Holafly is 60 cents cheaper at three days and 60 cents cheaper at five, identical at seven, and dearer at ten, fifteen and thirty — by $12.90 at the month. Nomad is the outlier: $18 for five uncapped days and $33 for ten, roughly $13 under both of the others at each.

Against fixed-data plans it is a different story again. Saily's India prices were read from its own site: $3.99 for 1GB over a week, $13.99 for 5GB over a month. Nomad's verified 10GB month is $21 and Airalo's is $24. A traveller doing a Golden Triangle circuit on hotel wifi could spend $13.99 on that 5GB month and never notice a limit. Holafly has no answer to that at all, because it does not sell one.

What Holafly says about the network

Holafly's own India listing points to no carrier at all. We read Holafly's pages: it publishes no host network for India, or for any of the countries we checked, and the Airtel and Reliance Jio pairing this page used to show came from our own older data rather than from Holafly. Do not buy this plan because you want a particular carrier's coverage.

On general Indian coverage: signal thins in rural Rajasthan, in Himachal above roughly 3,000 metres, on the high passes of the Leh–Manali highway, in the remoter Andaman and Nicobar islands and across parts of the Northeast. Unlimited data is worth nothing where there is no bar of signal, and a month of Holafly at $111.90 is a lot to pay for a Ladakh trip that spends half its days out of range.

Practicalities

No passport or ID is required to buy the eSIM, which is the plain advantage over a local Indian SIM — those need passport and ID at registration, and cost about $7 at an airport counter. Our older text said Holafly's India listing supported hotspot tethering; Holafly restricts tethering on many of its country products and we hold nothing verified here, so confirm it at checkout rather than assuming.

The plans are data only. No Indian number, no calls, no SMS. In practice that matters less in India than almost anywhere, because WhatsApp is the default channel for hotels, drivers and restaurants alike.

The verdict

Buy Holafly for India only for a short uncapped stay — three or five days, where it is 60 cents under Airalo and you want no counter — and only if Nomad's $18 five-day plan does not suit you, because it is $12.90 cheaper than both.

Don't buy the month. At $111.90 it is the most expensive single purchase in our India data, $12.90 above Airalo's unlimited month and more than two and a half times Nomad's verified 50GB. And if your usage is ordinary, a verified Airalo 10GB month at $24 or Nomad's at $21 does the same job for a fifth of the price. Every provider's India pricing sits side by side on the India hub.
