eSIMCard in India: the cheapest doorway claim has gone

Two eSIMCard rows carried this review — a one-gigabyte three-day plan sold as the cheapest way into the country, and a three-gigabyte week above it. Both have been withdrawn from the table here and from the cheapest-per-gigabyte ranking across the site, and the claim that went with them has gone rather than been softened.

The word those rows carried was indicative: our number rather than one read at a checkout, but close enough to quote. That is precisely what turned out not to be true. We read eSIMCard's own pages on 18 August 2026 and found the entry plan our data repeated at one price across fifteen unrelated countries goes for well under half that on its Japanese page. "Indicative" describes a figure that might be roughly right. We now have direct evidence ours was not.

Nor could we simply substitute the correct figures. Our records have room for a provider, a size, a number of days and a price, and eSIMCard prices the same size over the same days at two or three different amounts — depending on a Standard/Universal toggle that swaps the entire catalogue between product lines, on a per-plan speed limit hidden inside each plan's details modal, and on carrier sets that change from one plan to the next. Storing one price per size would assert that a throttled plan and a full-speed plan are the same product. The reasoning is set out on our eSIMCard page.

What an eSIM for India actually costs

Every figure below came off the seller's own site — Airalo and Saily on 13 August 2026, Nomad on 17 August 2026. They are the benchmark to hold eSIMCard's live prices against.

Uncapped, the verified ladders run: Airalo from $20.50 for 3 days to $99.00 for 30; Holafly from $19.90 for 3 days to $111.90 for 30; Nomad from $18.00 for 5 days to $33.00 for 10.

Network and tethering

Airtel and Jio are the pairing to want in India. Airtel is the carrier we recommend for visitors — easiest to set up, best 5G speeds at 187 to 212 Mbps — while Jio leads national 5G availability at 69.2% and has the wider rural footprint.

The carriers our own records held against eSIMCard's Indian rows came from this site's generated text rather than from eSIMCard, so we no longer present them as its arrangement. Hotspot tethering is supported across the metered sellers here, which matters if a laptop is coming with you.

Coverage limits are the country's rather than the provider's: rural Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh above roughly 3,000 m, the higher passes on the Leh–Manali highway, the remote Andaman and Nicobar islands, and parts of the Northeast including Nagaland and Mizoram.

What eSIMCard still does that nobody else does

eSIMCard is the only one of the six sellers on this site that publishes the host network at all. We read that directly: its Japan page names three Japanese operators against its plans, in a Supported Countries & Networks block. Airalo, Nomad, Saily and Holafly name no operator in any country, and eSIM Go has no consumer page on which it could. That is a genuine difference, and the price check left it untouched.

The carriers our own records held against its rows here came from this site's generated text rather than from eSIMCard, so those are ours to withdraw and not its claim to defend. Its own country listing is the place to look. India is a country where the answer would be worth something, since Airtel and Jio lead on different things.

Verdict

We have no Indian price for eSIMCard, so this page no longer ranks it. That is a limitation in our records, not a finding about the shop — it has a working checkout and a much wider range than our two rows suggested.

India is cheap for data by any standard, including at the counter: a local prepaid SIM runs about $7 at the airport. If you want a plan whose price we have read, start from the table above and the India hub.
