Airalo in Austria: cheap, if you pick the right listing

Two products: Servus Austria and Servus Austria+

The first thing to know about Airalo in Austria is that it sells two separate Austrian packages, listed side by side. They are called Servus Austria and Servus Austria+, and they carry the same allowances at different prices: Servus Austria is $8 for 5GB over 30 days, Servus Austria+ is $11 for the same 5GB over the same 30 days. We checked every figure below on Airalo's own site on 13 August 2026.

These are two products, not a duplicate listing. What the premium buys is not stated by Airalo — it publishes the two names and the two prices and nothing about how the packages differ — so treat the extra $3.50 at 10GB over 30 days as an unexplained premium rather than as a better product. We are not going to guess at a specification we do not hold.

The practical instruction is simple: read the package name before you pay. If the basket says Servus Austria+ at $14.50 for 10GB over 30 days, plain Servus Austria sells the same 10GB over the same 30 days for $11, and it is a separate listing you have to go back and find.

The premium is steepest in the middle of the range — 37% at 5GB/30 days, 32% at 10GB/30 days — and almost vanishes at 20GB over 30 days, where Servus Austria at $16 and Servus Austria+ at $16.50 are 50 cents apart.

Against the other providers

Using Servus Austria, the cheaper of the two Airalo packages. Nomad's figures were read off Nomad's own site on 17 August 2026, Saily's off Saily's on 18 August 2026:

Airalo beats Nomad outright from 5GB up, by $3 in the middle of the range and $16 at 50GB. Against Saily it does not: Saily is one cent cheaper at 5GB, 10GB and 20GB alike. An earlier version of this table put Nomad at $9, $16, $22 and $29 and Saily at $10.99, $18.99 and $26.99, and described the 50GB row as a tie. None of those Saily or Nomad figures had been read off their own sites, and almost all of them were wrong — the Saily 20GB by eleven dollars.

So the honest version is that Airalo's only unbeaten row here is 50GB, where nobody else in our data sells the allowance at all and $29 works out at 58 cents a gigabyte. At 5GB, 10GB and 20GB, Airalo and Saily are a penny apart and the choice is not about price.

The bottom of the range goes to Saily outright. Its 1GB is $1.99 for 7 days against Servus Austria's $4 for 3 days — half the money, twice the window. If a gigabyte is genuinely all you need, Airalo is not the buy.

Holafly sells only unlimited here, a verified $20.50 for 5 days rising to $73.90 for 30 days. Holafly sells six windows and no others — 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days — so the 90-day plan this page used to list does not exist. That is a different product for a different traveller; at $8 for 5GB over 30 days on Servus Austria, Airalo covers a fortnight of maps and messaging for less than half Holafly's shortest plan.

Nobody publishes an Austrian network — including Airalo

Older versions of this page named two Austrian carriers as the host networks behind Airalo's plan. That was not sourced from Airalo, and we have removed it.

Airalo does not publish a host network for Austria, or for any country. Neither do Saily or Nomad here. No provider lists anything. Holafly used to be the exception here, credited with A1, Magenta and Drei; that came from our own data, and Holafly publishes no host carrier for any country — we read its prices for 28 of them off esim.holafly.com on 18 August 2026 and not one names an operator.

Austria has three networks: A1 Telekom Austria, Magenta Telekom and Drei. Which one your eSIM lands on is not something you can determine before buying, from any of these providers, so do not let a coverage argument decide your purchase.

The Alpine caveat, and whether you need this at all

Austrian coverage is strong in the cities and along the valley floors, and thin where you would expect: high Alpine terrain above roughly 2,000m, narrow deep valleys in Tyrol and Styria, and some border mountain areas with Germany. Off-piste skiers and ridge walkers should not count on a signal at all, whatever the eSIM.

And if you hold an EU or EEA SIM, roam-like-at-home rules mean your existing plan already works in Austria at domestic rates. Buying anything is then a decision about your data allowance, not about connectivity. This page is for travellers arriving from outside the EU.

Airalo's plans are data-only — no calls or SMS — so voice runs over WhatsApp and similar apps. A local prepaid SIM costs around $15 at the airport and requires a passport or ID for registration, which makes it both dearer and slower than Servus Austria's $8 for 5GB over 30 days.
