Holafly in Austria: unlimited data, with one large catch

Check this before anything else

Holafly's Austria plan does not support hotspot tethering. Its listing describes this as a restriction that cannot be switched on at your end, so if you need to get a laptop or tablet online through your phone, this is the wrong product and no amount of unlimited data fixes it.

That single line disqualifies Holafly for a lot of people, and it is worth putting first rather than burying under the plan table. If you only ever use data on the phone itself, read on. There are also no calls or SMS on any Holafly plan — messaging runs over data through WhatsApp or whatever else you use, which is fine for most trips but means no SMS codes to an Austrian number.

What Holafly charges here

Six durations, all unlimited, read off Holafly's own site on 18 August 2026. These six are the whole range: Holafly sells 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days in every country it covers and nothing else.

A correction. Until 18 August 2026 this page listed a different ladder, including a 25-day plan at $68.90 and a 90-day plan at $99, and the verdict told you to buy the 90-day plan because $1.10 a day made it the best value on the table. Holafly sells no 25-day plan and no 90-day plan in Austria or anywhere else. That recommendation was for a product that does not exist, and it has been removed rather than repriced. The five other figures we printed were wrong too: five days is $20.50, not $19; fifteen days is $50.50, not $46.90.

The real ladder has one quirk worth noticing. Five days costs more per day than three does — $4.10 against $3.97 — because the jump from $11.90 to $20.50 buys only two extra days. The month is the only rung where the per-day rate drops sharply, to $2.46.

The break-even against metered data

Unlimited only wins if you would otherwise buy a lot of gigabytes, and Austria is one of the cheapest places in Europe to buy them. Airalo sells Austria as two packages; the figures here are the cheaper one, Servus Austria: 20GB over 30 days for $16, and 50GB over 30 days for $29 — about 58 cents a gigabyte. Saily's 20GB month is $15.99 and Nomad's is $19.

Holafly's 30-day unlimited at $73.90 is two and a half times Airalo's 50GB plan. At Airalo's rate, $73.90 would buy roughly 127GB. Almost nobody uses that much mobile data in a month of travel; that is sustained video streaming, not maps, messaging, email and a few hours of scrolling. On a shorter trip the gap is the same shape — $20.50 for five unlimited days against a verified $10 for Airalo's 10GB over seven days.

So the honest case for Holafly in Austria is not price. It is that you never have to think about the meter, never get a top-up prompt halfway through a train journey, and never ration a hotel evening. Some people will pay $50 more for that and be entirely rational about it. Just buy it knowing that is what you are paying for.

Nomad sells the same thing for less

If what you want is specifically uncapped data, Holafly is not the cheapest way to get it. Nomad's unlimited Austrian plans are $11 for 3 days, $18 for 5, $25 for 7 and $33 for 10 — under Holafly at every length, by 90 cents at three days and by $3.50 at ten. Nomad stops at ten days, so Holafly has the 15- and 30-day windows to itself, and that is the only stretch of the range where it is the sole option rather than the dearer one.

Network and coverage

Holafly does not name the networks behind its Austrian plan. We opened its own Austria page on 18 August 2026: the only network language on it is generic — fast and reliable coverage — and no carrier appears anywhere. The A1, Magenta and Drei listing this page used to attribute to Holafly came from our own older data rather than from Holafly, and it has gone. Airalo, Saily and Nomad publish no host network for Austria either, so on this point nobody has anything you can check.

Coverage limits in Austria are geographic and apply to every provider. High Alpine terrain above roughly 2,000 metres — off-piste skiing, high hiking ridges — is unreliable. So are deep, narrow valleys in Tyrol and Styria, and some mountain areas along the German border. Unlimited data is no help where there is no signal, which is another argument for downloading offline maps regardless of what you buy.

In Vienna, Salzburg, Graz and Innsbruck and along the routes between them, all of these plans behave much the same.

Verdict

There is now no length at which we would send you to Holafly for Austria on price. Up to ten days Nomad sells the identical uncapped product for less. Beyond ten days Holafly is the only unlimited option left, but $50.50 for a fortnight and $73.90 for a month sit against a 20GB month at $15.99 from Saily and a 50GB month at $29 from Airalo — so you are paying three to four times the metered rate for the freedom not to count.

Buy it only if you are a genuinely heavy phone-only user who wants a 15- or 30-day window and will not be tethering. Everyone else should start with the metered options, and anyone who needs a hotspot should rule Holafly out immediately.
