What Saily actually charges in Austria

Every figure in this table was read off Saily's own site on 18 August 2026. All five are new: the numbers this page carried before were generated rather than checked, and four of the five were wrong.

The old 20GB figure was out by eleven dollars, the 10GB by eight. This page's previous headline — "cheap start, steep ladder" — was an artefact of those inventions. The real ladder is not steep at all: it falls from $1.99 a gigabyte to 80 cents, and 20GB is Saily's cheapest per gigabyte in Austria exactly as it is in every other country where we have checked Saily's prices.

The entry plan is the cheapest row we hold for Austria

$1.99 for 1GB over seven days is cheaper than anything from Airalo, Nomad or Holafly here. For a weekend in Vienna where you need maps, a train app and messaging, 1GB is usually enough, and two dollars is close to a rounding error against the cost of the trip.

It is also unusual for Saily. Across the forty-eight countries where we have now read Saily's prices at source, its 1GB entry runs from $1.99 to $8.99, and only three markets — Austria, Bulgaria and Czechia — sit at the bottom of that range. Most of Europe pays $3.99. Egypt, Morocco and the UAE pay $8.99.

That spread is worth a moment, because our old records claimed Saily charged a flat $3.99 for 1GB in almost every country on earth. A single repeated figure across dozens of markets is what fabricated data looks like, and it is why the $1.99 here was previously described as merely indicative. It is not indicative. It is what Saily charges.

The nearest comparison we hold is $4.00 for 1GB over three days from Airalo's Servus Austria package, read off Airalo's site on 13 August 2026. Airalo also sells a dearer Servus Austria+ package — $5.50 for that same 1GB over three days — so make sure you are comparing against the right one. Saily is half the money for more than twice the validity.

Against Airalo, it is a coin-flip to the cent

Set Saily against the verified prices of Airalo's cheaper Austria package, Servus Austria, for the same allowance over the same 30 days:

One cent, three times over. Whatever is going on there, it is not competition on price — it is two companies landing on the same number and one of them shaving a penny off it. At these sizes the choice between them is about everything except cost.

Nomad is the one that is genuinely beaten: on verified prices it charges $9 for 3GB, $12.50 for 5GB, $14 for 10GB and $19 for 20GB, so Saily undercuts Nomad at every shared size, by three dollars at both ends of the range. An earlier version of this page said Nomad beat Saily at 10GB and 20GB. That was true only of the invented Saily figures; on real ones it is the reverse.

Where Saily runs out

Saily's Austria range stops at 20GB. Austria's cheapest data by a distance is Airalo's Servus Austria 50GB month at $29 — 58 cents a gigabyte, against Saily's best of 80 — and if you want that allowance Saily has nothing to sell you. Servus Austria+ sells the same 50GB at $36.50 and Nomad at $45, both of which are worse buys than the $29.

Saily also sells unlimited-data plans in Austria, at five, seven, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five and thirty days. We hold no price for any of them, so nothing on this page tells you what Saily's unlimited tier costs. Read it off Saily's own site if that is the shape you want.

What comes with it

Hotspot tethering is supported on all Saily's Austria plans, so a laptop or tablet can share the connection. Calls and SMS are not included on any of them — data only, with messaging apps doing the work. That means no Austrian number for SMS verification codes, which occasionally matters when signing up for local services or ticketing apps.

Saily does not publish a host network for Austria, and it does not publish one anywhere else either. We hold no operator against a single Saily row in any country. The same is true of Airalo and Nomad. Anyone telling you flatly which Austrian network Saily uses is guessing, and since Austria's real coverage problems are terrain rather than operator, it is not a difference worth agonising over anyway.

Coverage and the local alternative

Every travel eSIM in Austria inherits the same weak spots: high Alpine terrain above roughly 2,000 metres, including off-piste ski areas and high hiking ridges; deep, narrow valleys in Tyrol and Styria; and some mountain areas along the German border. Cities and the corridors between them are fine on any provider.

If you would rather buy a physical SIM on arrival, A1 Telekom Austria, Magenta Telekom and Drei sell prepaid SIMs for around $15 at the airport, and you will need your passport or national ID to register. That is roughly seven times Saily's entry price and about the same as its 20GB month, so for anything short of a heavy trip the eSIM is the obvious choice — and Saily does not ask for any ID to buy one.

EU and EEA residents should check their home plan before buying anything at all. Roam-like-at-home usually covers Austria at domestic rates.

Verdict

Saily is now the default recommendation for Austria at every size it sells. The $1.99 entry is the lowest price we hold for the country, and at 5, 10 and 20GB it is a penny under Airalo and three dollars under Nomad.

The one reason to look elsewhere is volume. If you want 50GB, Airalo's Servus Austria month at $29 is the cheapest data in Austria and Saily does not compete for it.
