Airalo phone number: does an Airalo eSIM come with one?
Many Airalo eSIMs are data only, with no number at all. Some include calls and texts. Here is how to tell, and how to keep your own number working.
Does an Airalo eSIM come with a phone number?
Often not. An Airalo phone number only comes with some plans: Airalo says some of its eSIMs include calls and texts, but many are data only. The deciding detail is the Plan Type in the eSIM's additional information. "Data, Voice & Text" plans include calls and texts, and "Data Only" plans do not. We read Airalo's help pages on 8 October 2026. This is desk research, and we have not tested a plan ourselves.
So the honest answer is that it depends on the plan. You can see the Plan Type before checkout, or after buying: open My eSIMs, select the eSIM and tap Show More.
How do you find the Airalo phone number on a plan that has one?
Airalo's pages do not explain how numbers are assigned or where in the app the number is displayed. The one detail it gives is for the Discover+ global eSIM: to call it, dial a plus sign, the eSIM's country code (generally +1) and then the phone number, without entering the country code separately. For any other plan with voice and text, the plan's own details in the app are the place to look, and support can answer what the pages do not.
What can an Airalo phone number actually do?
Airalo says local packages with calls and texts work only within the country of coverage, and they do not support international calls or texts. That limit matters if you hoped to ring home on one.
When you dial an international number, put a plus sign and the country code first, and drop a leading zero from the area code. Airalo's examples: +1 555 123 4567 is right, 001 555 123 4567 is not, and +30 73 1234 5678 is right while +30 073 1234 5678 is not.
What about WhatsApp and other apps?
On a data-only eSIM, messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal usually still work for calls, because they run on data. Airalo makes the same point when explaining how to avoid roaming charges. If messaging is all you need, a plan without an Airalo phone number is usually enough.
How do you keep your own number for calls and texts alongside an Airalo eSIM?
Airalo has a separate walkthrough for using a data-only eSIM for data while your primary line handles calls and texts. In short, keep the primary line on, make it your default voice line, and keep the eSIM selected for mobile data. Data roaming may need to be on, depending on your home provider, and that may incur roaming charges, so ask your provider first.
- iPhone. Settings, Cellular, turn on your primary line, set Default Voice Line to it, then select the eSIM for mobile data.
- Samsung. Settings, Connections, SIM card manager, set Calls and SMS to your primary line.
- Pixel. Settings, Network & Internet, SIMs, use Calls Preference and SMS Preference.
Airalo's roaming article suggests the opposite for avoiding roaming bills: turn on airplane mode, disable the primary SIM and stop mobile data switching. See Airalo APN settings if the data side will not connect.
If calls and texts are not working
Airalo's checks are to confirm the eSIM is installed and visible, that it is selected for calls and texts, and that you are inside its coverage area. If that fails, select the network by hand from the list in the eSIM details, then restart. See the Airalo eSIM not working checklist. Support is open 24/7, as covered on Airalo customer service.

Common questions
Does an Airalo eSIM come with a phone number?
Only some do. Airalo says many of its eSIMs are data only. Check the Plan Type in the eSIM's additional information, which you can see before checkout or under Show More in My eSIMs: "Data, Voice & Text" plans include calls and texts, and "Data Only" plans do not.
Can I get calls and texts on an Airalo eSIM?
On plans listed as Data, Voice & Text, yes, within the plan's limits. Airalo says local packages with calls and texts work only inside the country of coverage and do not support international calls or texts, so you cannot ring home on one. Data-only plans have no calls or texts at all.
Can I use WhatsApp with a data-only Airalo eSIM?
Usually, yes. Airalo says messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal normally still work for calls and messages on a data-only eSIM because they run on mobile data. You will not have a number that ordinary callers can dial, so people need to reach you through the app.
Can I keep my own number alongside an Airalo phone number?
Yes. Keep your primary line switched on, set it as the default voice line for calls and SMS, and keep the Airalo eSIM selected for mobile data. Data roaming may need to be on, depending on your home provider, which could mean roaming charges, so ask your provider before you travel.
How do I call an Airalo Discover+ number?
Dial a plus sign, then the eSIM's country code (generally +1), then the phone number. Airalo says you do not enter the country code separately. This is the only number-dialling detail Airalo gives for a specific plan; for other plans with voice and text, check the plan details in the app.
