Vodafone UK SIM card: Pay as you go Plus, eSIM and its limits

Vodafone UK's pay as you go Plus plans come with eSIM, but the page is not written for visitors. What it says and omits.

Is a Vodafone UK SIM card a good choice for a visitor?

It is an option, with a clear catch. A Vodafone UK SIM card is a pay as you go plan with an eSIM on every plan, but Vodafone says the plans work in the UK and Zone A only, and you manage them through the My Vodafone app. Nothing on the page is aimed at visitors. We read Vodafone's pay as you go page on 8 October 2026; this is desk research, not a test. The UK hub covers the other networks.

What does Vodafone pay as you go cost?

The page lists Pay as you go Plus, with an offer ending 8 December 2026:

Vodafone prepaid eSIM and where to buy

Vodafone says eSIM is available on all plans and works with most new phones, so no physical SIM is needed. You can order online, or order a free SIM and choose a plan later, and the page links to a store finder. It says you need a smartphone to manage the plan in the My Vodafone app, which is worth noting if you plan to arrive without data.

What ID does Vodafone need?

The page does not mention ID, so we cannot say what a visitor must show.

Vodafone UK coverage

Vodafone says 5G speeds are subject to coverage and gives no population percentage or speed on the page we read. It does not make claims about being the widest network.

Roaming and keeping your number

The plans are for the UK and Zone A, with roaming abroad handled through paid Extras. To keep your number, you text PAC to 65075, and the PAC is valid for 30 days.

Vodafone against a travel eSIM

A travel eSIM is bought before you fly and needs no app. Vodafone gives you a UK number and a large data allowance for the price. See our UK SIM card comparison and cheapest eSIM page. Other UK networks: EE, O2 and Three UK.
