EE UK SIM card: what EE's pay as you go pages tell a visitor
EE's pay as you go pages are not written for visitors. What they state on plans, 5G and roaming, and what they leave out.
Is an EE UK SIM card a good choice for a visitor?
It can be, but EE's own pages are not written for visitors. An EE UK SIM card for a tourist means EE's pay as you go range, and the pages we read say nothing about visitors, ID or where to buy. We read EE's pages on 8 October 2026; this is desk research, not a test. The UK hub covers the other networks.
What does EE pay as you go offer?
EE sells 30-day plans, a Saver version with 10 percent off each month if you pay by recurring card payment, and a Talk and Text option where you top up credit for calls and texts. Calls cost 40p a minute and texts 20p each. The EE homepage advertises pay as you go Saver plans from £9 a month, but the pay as you go page we read gives no full plan prices. Check EE's pay as you go page for current figures.
A few plan features it lists: unused data rolls into your next plan, a free 2 GB data boost comes for every two 30-day plans bought in a row, and a Data Parachute gives 1 GB free when you run out.
EE pay as you go eSIM and where to buy
The pay as you go page does not mention eSIM, ID, or where to buy, and we did not find it elsewhere on EE's site. So an EE prepaid eSIM for a visitor is something we cannot confirm.
What ID does EE need?
Not stated on the pages we read. Do not assume you can buy and activate on arrival without checking.
EE coverage and 5G
EE says 5G is available on pay as you go. It calls itself the UK's best and most reliable network, which are marketing claims, and the page gives no coverage percentages to back them up. Use EE's coverage checker.
Roaming is not for visitors
The roaming section of the page is about EE customers going abroad: allowances work in 47 European destinations at a daily or weekly charge. That does nothing for someone visiting the UK.
EE against a travel eSIM
A travel eSIM is bought before you fly and needs no UK address or shop visit. An EE plan gives you a UK number and EE's network, but the visitor route is unclear from its pages. Our UK SIM card comparison and cheapest eSIM page put numbers on the alternatives. Other UK networks: O2, Three UK and Vodafone UK.
Common questions
Does EE sell a SIM card for tourists in the UK?
The EE pay as you go pages we read do not mention tourists or visitors. EE sells 30-day pay as you go plans, but we could not confirm a visitor route, ID rules or where to buy. Check with EE before you rely on it.
Does EE have a prepaid eSIM?
The pay as you go page does not mention eSIM, and we did not find it elsewhere on EE's site. We cannot confirm that a visitor can get one, so check with EE or a shop.
How much is an EE pay as you go plan?
EE's homepage advertises pay as you go Saver plans from £9 a month, but the pay as you go page we read lists no full plan prices. Calls were 40p a minute and texts 20p. Check EE's site for current prices.
Does EE have 5G on pay as you go?
Yes. EE's page says it offers 5G on pay as you go. It gives no coverage percentage, and its claims to be the UK's best network are marketing statements, so check EE's coverage checker for where you will be.
Do I need ID to buy an EE SIM?
The pages we read do not say. We have not confirmed what a visitor must show, so bring your passport and check at the point of sale or during online ordering.
