Three (Tre) Sweden SIM card: eSIM needs a subscription

Tre Sweden's eSIM page requires a Tre subscription. We found no current Tre prepaid offer, so a visitor should look elsewhere.

Is a Three (Tre) Sweden SIM card an option for a visitor?

Unlikely, on what Tre's pages say. The brand in Sweden is Tre. We looked for a prepaid card (kontantkort) or a tourist SIM and did not find a current one. Tre's page on topping up the 3Kontant card, which we opened on 8 October 2026, mentions neither prepaid nor kontantkort and shows only mobile subscriptions with a 24-month binding period. That is not proof prepaid is gone, but it means we cannot point you to one.

What does Tre say about eSIM?

Tre's eSIM page says you need a Tre mobile subscription. A mobile or tablet eSIM is free when ordered through Mitt3, and a smartwatch eSIM is 49 kr per month as an add-on. The steps are: order in Mitt3, scan the QR code, follow the instructions. The page does not say how long activation takes, and it does not mention BankID or a Swedish personal number. It does say each eSIM must be linked to a subscription or prepaid card with its own number, a wording that leaves open the idea that prepaid exists.

Mitt3 is Tre's customer portal. Search results indicate it uses BankID for login, which a visitor cannot use; we did not confirm that on a Tre page, so ask Tre.

What did we see about prices, coverage and Tre 5G?

Nothing we can quote. The subscription page we opened shows a 24-month binding and no prices that fit a visitor. The eSIM page makes no 5G or coverage claim and links to general pages we did not read. Our network notes call Three the weakest in rural Sweden and say it is behind Tele2 and Telenor's shared network; we have not verified that and offer it as a lead only.

What should a visitor do?

A 24-month subscription is the wrong tool for a short stay. Prepaid on another network, with registration at a store, or a travel eSIM installed before you fly, will fit better. See Telia, Tele2 and Telenor Sweden. Our Sweden SIM card comparison lays out the options and the Sweden hub has the rest. Travel eSIM prices are on the cheapest eSIM page.

Common questions

Does a Three (Tre) Sweden SIM card come as prepaid?

We found no current Tre prepaid offer. Tre's top-up page for 3Kontant shows only subscriptions with a 24-month binding, and its eSIM page mentions a prepaid card only in passing. Check Tre directly to be sure.

Tre's eSIM page requires a Tre mobile subscription, ordered through Mitt3. The page does not mention BankID or a personal number, but a subscription route is built for residents. A travel eSIM is the simpler choice.

Tre says a mobile or tablet eSIM is free when ordered in Mitt3 with a subscription. A smartwatch eSIM costs 49 kr per month as the 3Extra Smartklocka add-on.

Tre's eSIM page makes no 5G or coverage claim. It links to separate pages that we did not read, so check Tre's coverage map before choosing.

What is the best SIM for a short Sweden trip?

From what we could verify, a travel eSIM installed before you fly, or a registered prepaid card from another network bought in a store with a passport. Tre's subscription route is built for longer stays.
