Telia Sweden SIM card: how a visitor registers a prepaid card

Telia Sweden sells a free prepaid card by post or in stores. Registration is mandatory, and Telia says a tourist can register in a store with a passport.

Is a Telia Sweden SIM card a good choice for a tourist?

It is workable, but you have to register it in person. Telia's own pages say a Telia Sweden SIM card must be registered before use, and the usual method is BankID, which a tourist does not have. We read Telia's registration page and its prepaid page on 8 October 2026. Our notes rank Telia first for tourist coverage in Sweden, which we have not verified on Telia's site, so we lean only on what its pages state.

How does a tourist register a Telia prepaid card?

Telia says you can register without BankID by bringing valid identification to a Telia store, where staff register it for you. For someone with no Swedish personal number, it says to bring a passport to a store. Registration at an ATG agent is limited to people over 18 with a Swedish personal number, so it is not for tourists. You need the card's phone number and the 20-digit ICC code printed on the SIM.

That makes a store purchase the sensible plan: buy and register in one visit, with your passport.

How do you buy it, and what does it cost?

Telia says you can order a free card for home delivery, buy one in a Telia store or get one from authorised resellers. Home delivery is awkward for a visitor, as the page gives no word on delivery to a foreign address. The prepaid page lists no prices or data allowances; it points to a separate top-up page that we did not read, so we give no figures. Top-ups are online, in the Mitt Telia app, or with a laddningscheck.

What does Telia say about EU use, coverage and Telia Sweden 5G?

The page says 5G is included in all top-ups and links to a coverage map, but does not describe coverage itself. Telia's pages that came up in our search say the card works as at home in the EU; we did not read those in full, so check the terms. The card stays valid while used or topped up. After 12 months of inactivity it is paused for a month, and then the number is cancelled. It does not mention eSIM.

Telia prepaid or a travel eSIM?

For a short visit, a travel eSIM installed before you fly saves the store trip and the registration. For a stay of weeks, a Telia card bought and registered in a store is practical. Other Swedish networks: Tele2, Telenor Sweden and Three (Tre). Our Sweden SIM card comparison lays out the options and the Sweden hub has the rest. Travel eSIM prices are on the cheapest eSIM page.
